It is with heavy hearts that the family of the late Phonse Power announce his peaceful passing on January 5, 2024, in Halifax at the QEII Hospital. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wonderful son David; grandchildren: Jessica and Nicole; sister-in-law Peggy; nephews Robert (sons William and James) and Daniel; niece Sarah (husband Michael, sons Benjamin and Matthew ); cousins Catherine Webber (husband Jim), Janice, Kelly, and Catherine Power-Baker; as well as a large circle of other relatives, and many friends.
Phonse is predeceased by his parents: James and Margaret; brother William (Bill); cousins Michael (Mick) and Joe; and his dear Old Aunt Mary Power.
At Phonse’s request, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 4 St Mark’s Avenue, Corner Brook on Thursday, June 13 from the hours of 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 14 at 10:00 a.m. at the Cathedral of the Most Holy Redeemer, Mount Bernard Avenue with Father Edward Terry officiating. Interment to follow at Mount Patricia Cemetery.
Phonse would like to thank the caregivers at Aberdeen Hall in Parkland and his doctor, Sophie Couture, for their kindness throughout his illness.
Phonse was a teacher for over 27 years in Corner Brook, Newfoundland. He felt very fortunate to have taught the wonderful students of Regina and Presentation High Schools. If you didn’t think he was a nice guy, then it’s too late now!
