It is with profound sorrow that the family of the late Karen Lisa Eastman (Hayden) announce her passing October 23, 2023 in Corner Brook, NL. after a long battle with cancer. She will be lovingly remembered by her devoted husband Wayne Eastman; Son; Matthew Eastman and grand-daughter; Char Sidle. Sisters; Stephanie Vinnedge (Terry), Jan Hayden (Brian Smith), Bev Woodman (Mel), Pat Hayden, best friend and sister Karen Bartlett. Sisters-in-law; Florence Stonehouse (Al), Barb Pomeroy, Glenys Nothcott (Ted), Molly Janes (Frank). Brother-in-law Roy Pomeroy, and her many nieces and nephews. Karen is predeceased by her parents; Cyril and Claudette Hayden, Father-in-law; Daniel Eastman, mother-in-law; Marjorie French, and stepmother-in-law Millie.
Karen loved her family passionately and took great joy in spending time with them. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved entertaining and being entertained by her grandchild Char, who brought her immense happiness. To her son, Matthew, she was not only a mother; she was a teacher, confidant, cheerleader and in his words – his ‘hero’. To her husband, Wayne, Karen was the love of his life.
Karen took great pride in her appearance, always managing to put her sisters to shame with her flair for design, clothing and style. To her adoring nieces and nephews, she was affectionately known as “Aunt Dee.” To those who called her a friend, Karen was steadfast, loyal and honest to a fault. She said what she meant and meant what she said. She had many lifelong friends for these reasons. She simply loved life – whether she was travelling, singing, going to the theatre, playing games or entertaining. Karen could always bring a smile to all those around her.
She was also a dedicated social worker throughout her long career. Karen treated her clients as if they were her own family, putting everyone’s needs above her own. Her smile brightened the room, and it was a privilege to be part of her life. She will be sorely missed. We were proud to call her wife, mother, sister and friend.
A celebration of Karen’s life will take place at Country Haven Funeral home on Wednesday, October 25th 2023 from the hours of 7-9pm. There will be no funeral service at this time. The family requests donations to a charity of one’s choice in lieu of flowers.
