Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Joan Marie Andrews (nee. Scott) announce her passing on May 28th, 2024 at the Corner Brook Palliative Care Unit at the age of 76 years. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her children: Sherry Bhutia (Pema), and Jennifer Andrews (Scott Mercer), grandsons: Luke, and Andrew; siblings: Margaret Rowe (Austin), Tilly Young (Gill), and Bill Scott (Florence); special niece: Lori Wellman; aunt Ruth Klevorick; and her cousin: Gerald Elliott (Irene Grandy); as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Joan is predeceased by her husband, William “Bill” Gerald Andrews (November 4, 2021); parents: Adelaide and Arch Scott; mother and father-in-law: Gordon Andrews and Marguerite Elliott; and fur baby: Molly.
Joan grew up on Charles Street in Corner Brook and was a social butterfly from birth. In her younger years “Scottie” loved roller skating and going to local hockey games with friends. She was a fierce mama bear and loved her family fully – siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, and all. Joan had a very close relationship with her sisters Marg and Tilly, brother Bill, as well as her niece Lori who was like a sister to her. She was a loyal friend with many friendships dating back several decades. Joan loved to entertain and hosted many a party with her husband Bill over the years, to whom she was happily married for 50 years. She loved music and knew the words to every song Bill played on guitar. Bill was the love of Joan’s life and she often talked about what a wonderful man he was. Joan had a great sense of humour and always had a comeback ready when someone tormented her in good fun. She was so proud of her daughters. Sherry, who became a nurse in Sweden, and Jennifer, who finally gave her grandchildren after many, many years. Joan was NOT known for her patience, but we loved her to pieces anyway.
There will be a visitation held for both Bill and Joan on Monday, June 3rd, 2024 at Country Haven Funeral Home from the hours of 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM, from where the funeral service will take place on Tuesday, June 4th, 2024 at 2 PM in the Country Haven Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kay Short officiating. An interment for both Bill and Joan will take place at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in both Bill and Joan’s memory to the Corner Brook Palliative Care Unit.
