It is with heavy hearts that the family of the late Harry Douglas Burt announce his peaceful passing on Thursday, December 21st, 2023 at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital in his 79th year of age, after a courageous, and lengthy battle with illness. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, his wife: Melinda; children: Robert (Viola), Ivy Lundrigan (Jim), Stephen (Jenny), Kimberly Gardner (Todd), Angela Power (Trevor), and Jennifer Pike (Frank); grandchildren: Zachary (Melissa), Melanie (Matt), Ashley (Adam), Jazmine, Jacob (Nadine), Teagan (Jordan), Leah, Blake, and Angela (Randy); great-grandchildren: Jack, Chloe, Rachael, Evelyn, Evan, Emma, Madison, Brody, Mackenzie, and Jaxon; siblings: Gower Burt (Fern), Jennifer Osmond (Wally), Glenn Burt (Joan), and Helen Luther (Donald); as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many, many, friends.
Harry is predeceased by his parents: Aubrey and Ivy Burt; sister: Gloria Clements; and daughter-in-law: Catherine Burt.
Harry worked with Corner Brook Transit for over 20 years of his life, and met many life-time friends along the way. He had a huge sense of humour, and could make just about anyone laugh. Harry and Lynn spent most of their time at their cabin in Howley, especially during their retirement, enjoying life and making memories together; whether it was fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, or riding on the trails. Harry enjoyed nothing more than being surrounded by his family and loved ones.
At his request, cremation has taken place. There will be a visitation held on Thursday, December 28th, 2023 at Country Haven Funeral Home from the hours of 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM, from where the funeral service will take place on Friday, December 29th, 2023 at the Salvation Army Temple, O’Connell Drive, Corner Brook, at 2 PM with Majors Brian and Valarie Wheeler officiating. Interment to follow at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, flowers are graciously accepted, or a donation can be made in Harry’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or to Diabetes Canada.
