The family of the late Evelyn Ball would like to extend a sincere thank you to everyone who reached out to us or helped support us in any way, following our mother’s passing. As it is impossible to thank everyone individually, please accept this note as a token of our heartfelt appreciation. We are so grateful to all our family, friends, and neighbours who called, texted, emailed, or sent cards with messages of sympathy; brought food to our homes; made charitable donations in our mother’s memory; or sent flowers to the funeral home or church. Thanks also to everyone who visited at the funeral home or attended the funeral. A special thank you goes out to the residents and staff of the Deer Lake Manor for their support and messages of sympathy. You were such an important part of moms life for so many years. The incredible outpouring of love and kind support that we experienced will remain with us forever.
To those people who helped in any way or participated at the funeral (including church staff, visiting clergy, musicians, singers, sound booth staff, ushers, traffic control personnel, and all those that we may have forgotten), we extend our gratitude. Special thanks also go out to Premier Andrew Furey who made time in his busy schedule to attend mom’s funeral and deliver a very kind message of condolence.
We want to thank the doctors, medical staff, and nurses from the second and third floors of the Western Memorial Regional Hospital for the amazing compassion and care shown to our mother for the three months that she was there, prior to her passing. The support provided to our entire family during this period was incredible and will not be forgotten.
We also wish to extend our gratitude to Fillatre’s Funeral Home for their support and professional care in arranging the visitation and funeral.
Finally, we want to extend a very sincere thank you to Pastors Jeffrey and Andrea White for the support, kindness, and love shown to our mom and our entire family, not just in recent days and months, but during the entire time that they have served our church in Deer Lake. Our mother’s funeral was truly a celebration of her life and we are so grateful to you both for that.

Evelyn Ball
February 20, 1934 – October 26, 2023
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Evelyn (Cooper) Ball announce her passing at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital on October 26th, 2023, at the age of 89 years.
Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are her children Dwight (Sharon), Duane (Patrick), Dean (Brenda), and Desmond (Sandra); daughter-in-law Barbara; foster child Todd (Nathalie) Evans; ten grandchildren Jonathan (Susan), Sarah (Anthony), Jade (Andrew), Megan (Will), Stephanie (Broc), Adam (Holly), Timothy, Cameron (Melicia), Gabriel (Melissa), and Julia; ten great-grandchildren James, Caroline, Antonia, William, Aiden, Chloe, Kyle, Deacon, Tiffany, and Hendrix; sister Lillian Hutchings; sister-in-law Mary Cooper; very special niece Phyllis Morris; as well as a large circle of relatives and friends.
Evelyn was predeceased by her beloved husband of 39 years William (Bill); son David; parents Thomas and Carrie Cooper; parents-in-law Cecil and Hurlet Ball; brothers Herb, Ward, Carl, Milton, and Bruce; sisters Muriel and Daisy; brothers-in-law Amador Chaulk, Clarke Hillier, and Stanley Hutchings; sisters-in-law Winnie and Harriett; and special friend Eldon Bailey.
Evelyn lived in Deer Lake her entire life. She loved her family immensely and enjoyed it tremendously when one or more of them dropped in for a visit and a cup of tea. An avid, life-long knitter, she took great pleasure in giving away the many woolen hats, sweaters, and blankets that she made, to almost anyone she met. Evelyn was also a faithful member of the Emmanuel Pentecostal Church. Perhaps her greatest passion though was the Deer Lake Manor where she worked and graciously served the senior members of the community for forty years.
The family would like to express their gratitude to all those friends and relatives who visited and supported Evelyn during her stay in the hospital, especially niece Phyllis Morris who was so helpful during the last three months. A special thank you is also extended to the doctors, medical staff, and nurses from the second and third floors of the hospital for the amazing compassion and care shown to Evelyn and the tremendous support provided to the family. Sincere gratitude goes out as well to Pastors Jeffrey and Andrea White for their endless support and to Fillatre’s Funeral Home for their professional care.
Gifts of flowers will be gratefully accepted but anyone wishing to make a financial donation as an expression of sympathy may do so to the Deer Lake Regional Food Bank (deerlakefoodbank@gmail.com).
Visitation will take place at Fillatre’s Funeral Home in Deer Lake from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm, on Monday, October 30th. The funeral service will take place at the Emmanuel Pentecostal Church in Deer Lake, at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, October 31st. Interment will follow at the Deer Lake Interdenominational Cemetery.
