Obituary of Theodore Barnes
Theodore (Ted) George Barnes.
23 July 1931 – 26 December 2023
Passed peacefully away surrounded by his loving family at St. Clare’s hospital after a brief illness. Born in Topsail, in a caretaker’s cabin ,on Bowring’s Lane. Ted spent his early childhood in Harbour Buffett, a place held near and dear to his heart. The remainder of his life was spent on Barnes’ Lane. Ted was a carpenter by trade, farmer, and a jack of all trades. He was always available to give a helping hand to family and friends. Ted and Violet raised six children whom they were extremely proud of. His pride and joy were always his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Proceeded by parents – Harold and Laura Jane (Burton), father and mother in-law Henry and Jessie Petten (Fagan), Granddaughter Michelle Butler, sister Enid Strong (Jim), son-in-law Sidney Cox, sisters-in-law Helen Barnes, June Petten, Joan Jefford (Sam),Mary Porter (Noah), Laura Butler (Leslie), Lucy Borden (Bill), Jessie Sherman (Gary), brothers-in-law Leslie Petten (Nellie), George Petten, Wallace Petten (Dorothy), Wilson Petten (Jean), Henry Petten (Jean), Stanley Petten, Isaac Petten (Lena), Larry Dunn.
Leaving to morn his loving and devoted wife of 63 years Violet (Petten), Children – Ted (Debbie), Laura Butler (Terry), Patsy Marsh (Jim), Brenda Pitman (Wayne), Harold (Judy), Jessie Cox, brother Frank, brother-in-law Hayden Petten, sisters-in-law Alma Petten, Margaret Petten, Evelyn Dunn.
Grandchildren -Michael (Marsha), Kyle, Ryan (Kayla), Kimberlee, Jeremy, Megan (Mac), Jason, Adam (Jade), Andrew
Great grandchildren -Joe Butler and Kendrik Pitman, 5 step grandchildren and 13 step great grandchildren who all enriched his life.
Also, special friends Tony and Karen Crocker (honorary 5th daughter), Jerry and Liz Randall and a very large circle of family and friends.
Visitation in Hickey’s Funeral Home 570 Conception Bay Highway, Conception Bay South, on Thursday, December 28th, 2023 from 3-7 pm. Funeral Service in St. John the Evangelist Church, Topsail on Saturday, December 30th, 2023 at 11am. Interment to follow.
