With profound sadness, the family of Winston Wheaton announces his passing on November 18, 2024, at the age of 76, at the James Paton Memorial Hospital in Gander, NL. Having courageously battled cancer for seven years, Winston passed peacefully surrounded by his cherished family.
Winston is predeceased by his parents, Ronald and Alberta Wheaton, mother and father-in-law, Leslie and Lydia Reid and sister, Patsy Wheaton.
Left with dear memories are his devoted and loving wife, Elizabeth (Betty), who proudly stood by his side for almost 60 years, their children Tina (Junior) and Ronnie (Jill) and grandchildren, Stacie (Travis), Julia (Carter) and Matthew (Emma). Winston also leaves brothers Selby, Grenfell (Alfreda), Cyril (Linda), and Austin (Karen), sister, June (John) and a large number of beloved family and friends.
Winston was a talented Musician who spent countless hours playing guitar and singing. He enjoyed performing for his friends, family, church, and community. Winston was also an avid outdoorsman who found peace and joy in spending time in nature, he especially loved fishing on the Gander River.
Above all else, Winston adored his family. He loved his wife Betty unconditionally and was immensely proud of his children, grandchildren and the fulfilling lives that each had carved. His family was truly his pride, and he will live on forever in their hearts as the most loving and caring husband, father and grandfather.
Winston lived a life full of love and laughter right to the end and he will be forever remembered for the bright smiles, warm laughs and fun that he shared with everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Winston’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the NL Health services staff at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, the palliative care team and especially Dr. Blundell and the staff at the cancer clinic, for the incredible care that they provided and for the overwhelming compassion and support offered by his large circle of friends and family.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 22nd at 2:00 pm at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church in Glenwood.
Cremation has taken place per Winston’s wishes.
Flowers gratefully accepted or donations can be made in Winston’s memory to the St. Andrew’s Church.
