Mary Josephine (Legge) age 90
It is with great sadness that the Quinton family announces the passing of the family matriarch, mother and Nanny Q., on October 13, 2023 at the age of 90.
Born October 14, 1932 in Sweet Bay, Bonavista Bay, NL to parents, Suzanna and Maurice Legge.
Mary married her sweetheart Roy (Darius) Quinton, April 16, 1953 and together they created a large and loving family of 11 children.
Besides her parents, Mary is predeceased by her husband Roy. son, Edward. Brothers, Ned, Joe, John, Michael and sister Margaret.
Mary is survived by one brother, Bill (Rose) Legge of Sweet Bay, BB, NL .
She will be deeply missed by her 11 children, Sheila (Terry) Gander, Joan (Cal) Gander, Bob (Laurie) Grand Prairie AB, Rick, Halifax, NS, Marion (Brian) Gander,
Sue (Tom) Gander, John (Stacey) Riverview, NB, Peggy (Frank) Winnipeg, MN, Roy (Deanne) Gander, Dave (Kelly) Gander, Steve, London, ON, as well as her 19 grandchildren and 8 Great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, friends and special Friend Jenny.
Mary worked in various positions in the Gander area, retiring at the age of 65 only to go on and volunteer at the Lakeside Homes for the next 20 years!, a position she greatly cherished. She was an active parishioner in St Joseph’s Parish.
Mary loved her children and their families, and loved spending time with them all. She always had great stories to tell. Mary was a fabulous cook, and was known for her great scoffs she could whip together.
Visitation will take place on Sunday October 15th, 2023 from 7:00-9:00 p.m & Monday October 16th, 2023 from 10:00a.m. – 12:00 p.m., form Stacey’s Funeral Home, Gander. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St Joseph Catholic Church on Monday October 16th, 2023 at 2:00 pm. Bishop Street, Gander, NL, with Father Hearn officiating.
A private family committal service will take place following the funeral.
A reception in the parish hall immediately following the service.
As expressions of sympathy flowers are graciously accepted or donations in Mary’s memory may be made to a charity of ones choice.
The family would like to thank the wonderful and caring staff at Nightingale Manor for their years of caring for Mom, to the staff at JPM and Medical Unit 3100 and Dr. Paulus for the compassionate care Mom received during her short stay there and to Jenny for being such a wonderful friend to Mom.
