Dulcie Fancey (nee – Coates)
August 30th, 1933 – November 14th, 2024
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Dulcie Fancey (nee – Coates) announce her sudden passing at James Paton Memorial Regional Health Centre on Thursday, November 14th, 2024, at the age of 91, with her loving family by her side.
Predeceased by her husband, Wilson Fancey; her parents, Lewis and Emma Coates; brothers Albert, Roy and Don; parents in law Israel and Bethia Fancey.
Left to mourn with many loving memories are her 10 children –Effie (Ron) Fahey, Marina (Calvin) Fancey, Glenn Fancey, Marlene (Barry) Fancey, Norma (Lorne) Wade, Scott Fancey, Wade (Jennifer) Fancey, Nancy (Kevin) Boyde, Elaine (Lorne) Fancey, Terry (Leslie-Ann) Fancey ; 18 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren.
Also leaving to mourn are her sister in laws Beatrice, Pansey and Cavell and a large circle of family and friends who will miss her dearly; especially Josephine who visited Dulcie every day.
Dulcie grew up in Wing’s Point, NL and lived there for her entire life. She learned about hard work at a young age – helping with chores, cooking, making bread. She was like a second mother to her baby brother Don. She was just as helpful outside with Pap – packing up wood, hunting, fishing, picking berries, tending the gardens.
She met Wilson and started a family of her own, and was very busy for many years as her family grew. She loved her family tremendously, and cherished visits and phone calls from her children and grandchildren. Her home gave all who visited a warm comforting feeling. She was a strong, caring and patient woman, always with a smile on her face. Dulcie spent her entire life caring for others and tending to the needs of those around her.
Dulcie was a woman of great faith, regularly attended her church and was a member of the choir. In recent years, she spent hours knitting beautiful mitts, socks, and other creations; giving away all that she knit to others. A generous, giving soul, never expecting anything in return. Dulcie had a spark about her, and a bit of stubbornness, that kept her in such great shape for her 91 years.
Our lives will never be the same without her – She was the glue that held our family together. We will take comfort in our memories, that she lived her best life right to the end, that she “ did it her way “, and passed quietly and peacefully – just how she wished.
Family will be accepting friends at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Wing’s Point on Sunday, November 17th from 2:00 P.M. – 4:00 P.M. and 7:00 P.M. – 9:00 P.M. Funeral service will take place on Monday, November 18th at 2:00 P.M. Interment will follow at the Anglican Cemetery, Wing’s Point.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dulcie’s memory to Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Wing’s Point or the Gander Bay Volunteer Fire Department.
Arrangements entrusted through Stacey’s Funeral Home, Gander – Carmanville.
