The family of Maxwell Fleming of Spillar’s Cove are saddened to announce his passing on August 14th, 2024 at Golden Heights Manor at the age of 91 years.
Maxwell is predeceased by his parents Thomas and Agnes (nee Martin), brother Samuel and sister-in-law Pearl, brother Clarence and nephew Calvin.
Left to mourn are his brother Wilson, sister-in-law Annie, sister-in-law Elizabeth, nieces Millicent Dusseault (John), Phyllis Dalton (Lloyd) and Deanna Pearce (Barry) and a circle of great nieces, nephews, their families and his long time friend Dave Abbott, other friends and wonderful neighbours.
Max lived all of his life in Spillar’s Cove. He certainly enjoyed the land and ocean where he grew up, it brought him much pleasure and contentment. He was never married, had 1 dog in his life and many cats which he loved everyone of them.
In earlier years, he fished with his brothers Samuel and Clarence, sowed a potato garden with his brother Wilson and help from his friend Dave as well. Max and his brother Wilson used to go woodcutting. Max was never late when doing or going anywhere, he was usually, always way too early, he’d be there at the break of dawn. He was a man that always kept himself busy. Always early to bed and early to rise!
Throughout his life, he had been provided with lots of help. His sister-in-law Annie cooked many, many meals for him and his brother Wilson delivered the meals. His niece Phyllis helped him each year with his taxes, his friend Dave provided some meals, wood chips for his stove and many other things as well.
For those who were really close to him knew him as a very generous man. Every Sunday, as his brother Wilson delivered him a cooked meal that Annie prepared, he’d always give Wilson $5.00 to give to his great niece Sarah who had spent most of her time at her grandparents.
After suffering from a stroke and developing diabetes, he got help from his niece Millicent with groceries, finances and medications. John (Millicent’s husband) had fixed many things around his house. Glenys (predeceased nephew, Calvin’s wife) brought many, many meals each day and did many other things for him. His closest neighbours Jerry, Lynette and Bearnard also did many things for him and watched over him just in case he needed anything. Other close neighbours were also there.
With all this help he was still strong and determined to do things for himself, like cutting wood with a chain saw and using a log cutter in his shed and endless other things he tried to do for himself. He was a great part of our lives and will be sadly missed.
A special thank-you to the staff of Bonavista Hospital and Golden Heights Manor, where he had a brief stay, for their compassionate care and kindness.
May he rest in eternal peace. His spirit will always be remembered.
God bless all who had been a part of his life.
