Levi George Matthews
June 17th, 1944- May 22nd, 2024
Levi Matthews was born on June 17th, 1944 in Grandbank, NL. On May 22nd, Levi went to dance on the streets of Heaven.
Levi is predeceased by his loving wife Barbara, his parents Robert and Stella, his brothers Robert, Gary, Leonard, Fraser, Maxwell, Aubrey and sisters Meta and Roberta.
Leaving to mourn his loss are his sons Paul (Susan) Matthews, Stephen Matthews, Sheldon Matthews and daughter Heather Matthews. His grandchildren Rebecca, Zachary, Jenna, Kiana, Darien, Serena, Raya, Simon, Kendall, Kamden, Kaisen and Kiahden. His sisters Emma, Henrietta, Maude (Jack) and Marie and brother Claude. As well as a large circle of extended family and friends.
Levi married Barbara on July 30th, 1969 in Bonavista, NL where they began their life together. Together they raised four children, Paul, Stephen, Sheldon and Heather.
Levi was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, he was proud of his family and anyone who knew him knew this was no secret. His advice, support and words of encouragement will be missed by those who loved him most. Levi was selfless and this can be seen in the way he loved those around him, especially his grandchildren.
Levi had a zest for life and was known for his hard work and attitude that nothing was ever truly broken. His handyman skills were a core part of his character, as his business slogan read “If We Can’t Fix It, It’s Not Broken”. Levi wore many hats through the course of his lifetime, he sailed the roughest seas, he was employed at Fishery Products International LTD for many years as a machinist, from there he expanded the opportunity to become an entrepreneur. In 1992 he launched Bonavista Fabrication and Repairs LTD. Some of the greatest moments of his career can still be seen in the Town of Bonavista today. Levi was a thrill seeker, a risk taker and determined to succeed. These characteristics carried forth in many aspects of his daily life, even to his last moments.
Levi was often strong willed and stubborn at times, but also had the most enormous heart and a wonderful sense of humor. Clever and so full of endless knowledge, which came with a story he was often eager to share. The childhood stories were endless and the smiles that came with his memories will never be forgotten. The kindness that has been shared through the duration of his life has impacted many individuals, families and communities. He will be remembered for all the heart that he shared with his family, friends and all of those around him. He truly loved each and every one- if you knew him, you knew it. He will be missed dearly, but will always remain in our hearts forever.
“Seeing death as the end of life is like seeing the horizon as the end of the ocean”
Cremation has taken place, and in true Levi fashion, details for his Celebration of life will be shared in the coming days.
