Mr. Jerome White of Bay Roberts passed away peacefully at the Private Josiah Squibb Memorial Pavilion in Carbonear on August 27th at the age of 96 years.
Mr. White was born in Bay Roberts on October 25, 1927 to James F. White and Elsie (Cave) White. He was their last surviving child, having been predeceased by his six siblings: Alice Mercer, Margaret Mercer, Samuel White, Jean Purdy, William White and James F. White, Jr.
Left to mourn are his wife Winifred (Parsons) White, her children Linda Peach (Michael Bradbury), Ruby (Wade) Lynch, Darrell (Tanya) Churchill, and Dwayne Churchill (Kimberly Earle), her grandchildren Steven and Shaun (Lori) and great-grandchildren Ireland and Isaac.
Also left to mourn are his three daughters Margaret (Patrick) Doyle, Allison (Walter) Carboni and Barbara (Walter) Mazzoni, their mother Susanne Deering, and his grandchildren Emily, Olivia, Benjamin, William, Andrew, Sean and Matthew.
Mr. White also leaves many nieces, nephews and friends.
During World War II when he was just sixteen years old, Mr. White immigrated to the United States and completed a two-year agricultural program in Vermont. He worked on farms in both Vermont and Connecticut and lived in Cheshire, Connecticut for over thirty years. Following his farm work, Mr. White worked for the Cheshire school district, becoming Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds for eight schools. During those years, he and his family enjoyed their summer trips home to Newfoundland and all the good times spent with family and friends.
Mr. White enjoyed vegetable gardening, fishing and was an avid Bingo player. During the retirement years, he and Winnie spent time in both Florida and Newfoundland.
The family expresses their great appreciation for the care that Jerome received at Callingwood Downs Retirement Residence and at the Private Josiah Squibb Memorial Pavilion.
The funeral service will be held at two o’clock on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at St. Matthew’s Anglican Church in Bay Roberts with burial to follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Matthew’s Anglican Church, P.O. Box 202, Bay Roberts, NL A0A 1G0.
