Peter Hans Erwin Jantzen, born in Schongau, Germany passed away peacefully on March 20, 2024. Uncle Peter immigrated to Canada with his family in 1951. The wonderful organization of Mennonite Central Committee sponsored the family’s refugee process. They settled in rural Duck Lake with beloved cousins, and eventually moved to Saskatoon.
Uncle Peter graduated from Bedford Road Collegiate Institute at the tender age of 16. He studied geophysics at the University of Saskatchewan and later moved to Calgary. His career included summers living on and studying Peyto Glacier in Banff National Park. He retired at a young age and moved back to Saskatoon to be closer to family.
Uncle Peter was a genius with a wide ranging curiosity of the world around him. He had many hobbies including ham radio operation, gadgetry, volunteering, reading, writing poetry and watching Jeopardy.
Uncle Peter was predeceased by his father, Bruno Jantzen, his mother Ilse (Jochem) Jantzen, and sister Karla (Jantzen) Blumrich. He is lovingly remembered by brother-in-law Gerhard, nephew Markus, niece Monica (Pierre), nephew Martin (Darlene), and their families.
A private family memorial will be held at a later date. If so desired, donations in Uncle Peter’s name can be made to Mennonite Central Committee.
Martens Warman Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the care and arrangements for Peter Jantzen.
