Brenda Gail Patrick, born August 11, 1957, was the third daughter of Russell (Bubs) and Anne Patrick. Raised on the family farm north of Kelvington, Brenda and her sisters worked hard, doing chores typically reserved for boys. Spending much of her childhood by her father’s side, she earned the affectionate nickname “Little Bubs.”
A natural at school—except for math—Brenda rarely needed to study and was known to break a few curfews and rules in her later school years. Brenda also developed a deep love for horses, competing at various events with her beloved horse, Gypsy.
After high school, Brenda pursued a teaching degree at university. However, her true passion was found elsewhere, leading her to work at Birk’s Jewellery Store. Her talent and hard work quickly paid off, and she was promoted, which took her from Saskatoon to Edmonton, Victoria, and eventually Toronto. As a jewelry buyer, Brenda traveled extensively, exploring many European countries. No matter where her work took her, she would make sure that she was home for Christmas holidays.
In 1998, Brenda moved to Calgary to be closer to family and manage the duty-free shops at Calgary Airport. It was in 2000, while both were vacationing at Fishing Lake, that Brenda met Brian—the two of them had cabins just two doors apart from one another. The pair married on July 18, 2001, and together, they enjoyed fixing up their Calgary home and garden, where Brenda discovered her love for flowers.
Brenda adored traveling to cheer on her nieces and nephews at sporting events. In the spring of 2008, she and Brian decided to sell their Calgary home and moved to Kelvington, where they built their new home and meticulously cultivated a beautiful yard full of flowers. Brenda planted and re-planted and transferred flowers from various locations until she had her yard just right.
Brenda worked a bit, but then decided it was time to be semi-retired, taking on doing the books for Brian and taking care of their home and yard. She remained active in the community, volunteering at the Kelvington Fair, organizing curling events and suppers, and serving on the Kelvington Town Council for four years.
Brenda had a deep affection for her cats, Aphrodite and Venus, and is now reunited with her first cat, Sapphire, who passed away in 2015. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
May she rest in peace.
As per Brenda’s wishes, there will be no funeral service held
