Our Dad, Stanley Sealey, passed on bravely and peacefully after tearful goodbyes. Through the sadness, we are comforted in knowing his loneliness in missing mom is over.
Dad was born Aug 4, 1929 in the Valparaiso district to Leslie and Clara Sealey. He married Shirley Shields in 1954 and together they built their farming life in the New Osgoode area. Dad loved the land. His early days of logging in the winter brought him much joy. He often commented that he was “the happiest man in Saskatchewan” on October 25th, 1960 when he purchased a D4 Caterpillar cat. We like to think that the birth of his second child on that same day contributed to that happiness! He was a proud farmer working the necessary hard, long hours to provide for the family. With his only son continuing the farming legacy, Dad had the satisfaction of watching the farm that he loved succeed.
Family and friends were of great importance in Dad’s life. Visits, phone calls and letters were cherished throughout his lifetime. Mom & Dad made many visiting excursions across Canada and in to the States. Time spent at Barrier Lake, often with the grandkids, filled their summers for many years. They took up downhill skiing in their 40’s and enjoyed skiing in Saskatchewan and the mountains with their children and grandchildren.
Dad is survived by his children Sandra McMillan (Glenn) , Arlene Helgason, Brenda Hueser (Randy), and Kelly (Paula Burroughs); grandchildren Cody (Alicia), Lacey (Cole), Chrystan (Wesley), Sheena (Michael), Vanessa (Riley), Dayton (Jeanelle), Declan and Emma; great grandchildren Solveigh, Faryn, Tensley, Maris, Kolsen, Keah, Briya, Kainyn, Coen and Karson. Also survived by sister-in-law Joyce (Larry), Phyllis Shields, brother-in-law Merlin (Evangeline).
Dad was predeceased by his loving wife Shirley, his parents, infant son Lyle, his son-in-law Rick Helgason, siblings Iva, Marjorie, Walter, Dorothy, Harold and Florence. Also predeceased by Shirley’s parents, Lawrence & Olis, and siblings Doug, Audrey, Ronald, and Garth.
The Sealey family would like to thank Dr. Richardson for her many years of great care for both our parents. Also thank you to the wonderful staff at Tisdale hospital for making dad’s stay as comfortable as could be.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Tisdale & District Golden Age Cen
