John Allan Mann was born on July 11, 1929 in Tisdale, Saskatchewan to Howard and Elsie (Pearce) Mann. After a brief illness, he passed away in Tisdale Hospital on December 11, 2024, at the age of 95.
Jack grew up on the family farm southwest of Tisdale, with his sisters Connie and Betty, and brother Alec. He attended Eastman, Caribou, and then Arpsville School where he graduated at age 16. Despite taking time off for seeding and harvest, and skipping school for the odd auction sale, he graduated with honors. Jack married Irene Burgess on August 17, 1955. Together they raised 3 children, and last summer were lucky to celebrate 69 years of marriage.
From a very early age, there was no doubt that Jack was born to be a farmer. He loved all farm animals. He raised cattle and hogs for many years, but he especially loved horses. Jack started farming in the horses and threshing machine days, and drove a modern combine at the age of 94. He could spend countless hours fixing anything, often in very creative ways. He was very proud that his sons and now some grandsons have carried on the farming tradition.
Jack and Irene enjoyed life together. Jack loved to sing, and he also loved to dance! They enjoyed travelling for many years all over the world. He liked meeting new people and visiting with everyone. He loved driving all over the countryside to watch his children and later grandchildren participate in their sports and activities.
Jack took great pride in his involvement with the Tisdale RM. He was a councillor for six years, and the reeve for 20 years. He worked hard on committees that made the new Tisdale Hospital and the local inland grain terminals a reality. Jack was an active member of both the Sylvania and Tisdale Seniors curling clubs.
Jack and Irene lived on the farm until 2018, before moving into town. He still made very frequent trips to the farm, but gradually became a welcoming, positive, fun-loving resident of Cumberland Villa.
Jack was predeceased by his sister Connie, numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and an infant son, Dale. He is survived by his loving wife, Irene; 3 children: Allan (Debbie), Shirley (Don DeMarsh) and Darrell (Kim); 8 grandchildren: Chantelle (Chris) Dallyn, Dayne (Katie) DeMarsh, Desirée (Connor) Yeo, Kacie (Dylan) Wilkinson, Morgan, Matthew (MaryLynn), Melissa and Miranda (Riley) and great-grandchildren Beckett, Maclain and Kinley Dallyn, Baylor, Murphy, Winnie and Midge DeMarsh, Ashlyn, Emmett and Merrick Yeo, and Layne and Cole Jack Wilkinson. He is also survived by his brother Alec, sister Betty, brother-in-law Bob, sisters-in-law Sherry, Ellen and Darlene, and many loving nieces and nephews.
Jack was a hard-working farmer, a loving family man and a good friend to many. Although he felt that he still had many things to do and goals for the future, he led a good honest life and left a wonderful legacy.
