Garth Allan Hardie was born July 3rd, 1949, the third son of Jean and Charles Hardie. Garth took his schooling in the Jordan River School till Grade 8. He spent his youth outside doing various activities, whether it was working with the animals or learning to farm with his Uncle Dick and his dad Charles.
Garth started working at the age of 15 with Sandy Stevenson, logging back in the bush. And Sandy’s son Larry Stevenson up North at Cumberland House. He moved to Snow Lake to work in the mines for a short time. He worked for Bill Marshall hauling honeybees to and from California. He worked in Flinn Flon as a truck driver with his good buddy Herb Walton. And moved to BC to work in the mountains cutting and falling trees.
In 1974 he met the love of his life Judie Meachem, “his Judie”. Garth and Judie were married on June 12th 1976 and moved into a trailer on the family farm and in 1979 he began farming fulltime. In May of ‘81 Garth and Judie started their family with the birth of their first son James, followed by a daughter Amanda in ‘84 and their second son Jeremy in ‘87. Garth loved being a dad and did his best to always be patient and help out with the kids.
In 1998 Garth returned to the work force at the Arborfield Dehy and would continue working there for the next 10 years. He made many new friends and was reunited with old ones. In early 2000 Garth went to work at the Arborfield RM where he enjoyed working on the roads and learnt to drive the grader. He also went back to school at this point getting his 1A again. Garth and Judie loved to go to the lake and he was so pound of his pontoon boat, he spent many hours at Big Sandy Lake with his dear friends and family, making great memories.
In retirement Garth enjoyed spending time with “his Judie”. He began singing with her and joined the group Country Jam. He loved singing and loved watching “his Judie” sing.
He also got to enjoy plenty of time with his grandbabies.
Garth’s health started to decline and in 2021 Garth moved to the nursing home. Judie was there to visit him every other day and was able to come sing for him, with Deb and MaryAnn.
