Douglas Wayne Arnold of Swift Current, Sk. Born May 21, 1955 in Oakville, Ontario passed away peacefully January 25,2024 after knowing he had bone and liver cancer for only two days. We are thankful his battle with cancer was brief. Doug is survived by his loving wife, Helen (nee Gerbrandt), his son Michael and daughter in-law, Rhea and their children Elliott, Braelynn, and Soraya, his son, Gregory and daughter in-law, Bree and their children, Kayson, Jordie and baby coming in April. Doug is also survived by his brother, David (Sandi) Arnold, his brother, Bob Arnold and sister Lynn (John) Hamilton, brothers-in-law Ed (Carol) Gerbrandt, Irwin (Vera) Gerbrandt, Jerry Gerbrandt, and sister in-laws Esther Penner, Lisa (Nick) Petkau and Vi Gerbrandt. He is also survived by his Stepfather Brian Garey.
Doug attended elementary school at Lindbrook Public School and Perdue High School in Oakville, Ontario. After High School he attended Sheridan College in Oakville, Ontario. Doug pursued a career in Industrial Radiography. He loved his work and he was so proud to teach his boys the trade and work along side them both. The “A” team he would call it. His work required him to travel frequently and far and wide. It was work that brought him to Swift Current, Sk. A social evening with co-workers at the Big “I” (Imperial Hotel) led him to meet Helen Gerbrandt, his wife-to-be.
Doug and Helen were married on December 30, 1985 at the First United Church in Swift Current, Sk. They were blessed with two (2) beautiful sons, Michael Douglas (1986), and Gregory Leonard (1989). Doug and Helen lived in Morse, Sk. For the first 10 years of marriage, then moved to Swift Current where they still reside.
Doug and Helen were blessed with five (5) grandchildren—Kayson, Elliott, Braelynn, Soraya, and baby coming in April 2024. The grandbabies were the apple of Papa’s eye- he loved them with all his heart and fed them cookies for breakfast. “They contain all the food groups” was Papa’s excuse. Family meant everything to Doug. When he was home, there was no time for anything else but spend time with Helen and the boys.
Doug is pre-deceased by his parents, Leonard and Georgina (nee Lee) Arnold Garey, Helen’s parents, Jacob and Helena (nee Unger) Gerbrandt, Uncles Bud Lee, Keith Lee, Aunt Pat Lackie and cousins Danny and Kim.
We would give everything we own… just to have you back again. All our love forever and always.
Memorial donations appreciated to the Dr. Noble Irwin Regional Healthcare Foundation.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, January 29, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion in Swift Curent, SK. Funeral arrangements are in care of Parkside Memorial Funeral Home – Ryan Cappelle & Hayden Cappelle.

  1. Helen, Michael and Gregory. I was shocked when Todd phoned me to give me the very sad news that Doug had passed. I had the pleasure of sharing allot of time and fun with your family. From the nick name of “Spuds” when you had the Esso resteraunt in Morse to helping Doug exraying tie ins north of Bell Plain. There were countless other times with all of your family Helen, who made me feel like family as well. Natasha and my hearts are with you. John
