The Cheyenne Frontier Days—the “Daddy of ’em All”—was where legends were made. Ray’s victory wasn’t just about winning a championship; it was about etching his name into Chuckwagon history. The roar of the crowd, the smell of hay, and the taste of victory—it all converged in that moment.
Ray wasn’t just a competitor; he was a mentor. Young buckaroos sought his advice, and he graciously shared the secrets of the track. His hands, calloused from reins and sweat, extended to lift others up. He believed that greatness wasn’t measured solely by trophies but by the impact one had on others.
As we bid farewell to the chuckwagon legend, let us remember Ray as more than a champion. He was a husband, father, a friend, and a force of nature. His laughter will echo in the wind, and his legacy will race across the prairies forever.
Ray leaves to mourn; his loving wife Josephine, his sons; Darren (Renita), Dean, Devin, Dale, Clement, and adored Kenneth, Raymond, Desmond, Blake, Buck, Lynelle, Madison and so many more; his grandchildren; Lucas, Delray, Raylee, Ryder, Harriett, Daralynn, Taylor, Deano, Alexie, Colton, Rylan, Brayden, Keshay, Trent; his great grandchildren Liam, Jaxon, Nico, Zaylen, and Kyro: his siblings; Joyce, Dorothy (Joe), Robert (Darlene), Leon, Adrian, Elphy (Nicole), and Neil (Diane) and all his relatives. Ray also leaves to mourn his special close friends; Keith Olsen, Val Clift, Bruce Morin and Gordon Taylor. Also, all the children who knew him as their bus driver for the last 50 years.
He is predeceased by: his grandparents, Philip (Choochum) and Katie (Mama) Mitsuing; his mother, Emma Mitsuing; his brother, Ralph Mitsuing; his sisters Irene Mitsuing, and Valerie June Mitsuing; uncle, Harry Mitsuing; aunties, Matilda Mitsuing, Cecile Lewis, and Maryrose Sandfly.
A Funeral Service for Ray was held on Thursday, May 2, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at the Jason Morningchild Memorial Arena, Makwa Sahgaiehan First Nation, Saskatchewan.
