Julia Crookedneck Obituary
On Sunday Sept.15, 2024, Julia Crookedneck passed away peacefully at the Loon Lake Health Facility. She was 88 years old.
Julia was born in Onion Lake to Harriet McKay and Phillip Pahtayken.
She met and married Pierre Crookedneck in 1957 and together they had 7 children and were further blessed with 17 grandchildren, 53 chapans, and 18 great chapans. She was so happy when she reached 5 generations 18 times; sometimes she couldn’t stop talking about it. Mom kept two grandsons whom she called her own; Robert and Corey. She took them wherever she went. They called her “mom” She made sure they went to school each day and took them to local events. Eventually when all other grandkids got older, they would come and see her and prolonged their visits. Julia loved them unconditionally.
Mom was a residential school survivor and would talk to us about her stories. After she met dad she became a farmer’s wife. She learned how to chase horses and cows and eventually learned how to milk cows. She used to help the local ladies with medicine picking, berry picking and other activities. As her children started growing older she became a teacher and taught them many things like gardening and washing clothes in the lake. Her children were her world. Mom also traveled with Dad to Cultural Activities in the surrounding areas. She partook in Sundances along with her little girls in tow.

A Wake for Julia will start at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 19, 2024, with the Funeral Service to follow at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at the Ministikwan Band Hall, Ministikwan Lake Cree Nation, Saskatchewan.
