Sharon Lucy Ellen (Ruhl) Auchstaetter
August 16, 1941 – November 19, 2024
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Sharon Lucy Ellen (Ruhl) Auchstaetter, who peacefully entered the arms of the Lord on November 19, 2024, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
Born on August 16, 1941, in Saskatoon, Sharon’s life was a beautiful testament to love, faith, and resilience. After attending nursing school in Edmonton, Alberta, she married her great love, Thomas Auchstaetter, on October 7, 1961, in Red Deer, Alberta. Together, they built a life rooted in devotion, raising three beloved children: Shauna, Thomas Jr., and Alec. Sharon’s nurturing spirit was evident in her work as a nurse and later in providing a warm and caring day home in Lloydminster.
Sharon’s life was enriched by her passions for family, faith, and the arts. Her love for musical theater led her to captivating roles in productions such as Finian’s Rainbow, Fiddler on the Roof, Guys and Dolls, and the award-winning The Collection. She found joy in singing, directing a small community choir, and lending her beautiful voice to choirs for many years. Her deep devotion to the Catholic Church inspired her to teach catechism, lead as a director in the RCIA program, and extend her home and heart to Vietnamese refugees through the church’s outreach efforts.
A warrior in every sense, Sharon faced breast cancer in the 1990s with courage and grace. She joined other survivors in dragon boat racing, triumphing in competitions, and giving back through the Reach for Recovery Program. Sharon embraced life fully, finding happiness in hosting gatherings, curling, gardening with her beloved Tom, cooking, traveling to the mountains and the ocean, and cherishing adventures with her treasured granddaughters. She also found solace in poetry, literature, and the simple beauty of the world around her.
Sharon leaves behind her devoted husband of 63 years, Tom; her children, Shauna (Peter) and Tom; her adored granddaughters, Brieanna and Kayla(Francis); her siblings, Bob (Jeanie), Alec, Bonnie (Ken), and Ron (Val); and numerous nieces and nephews. She is reunited in heaven with her parents, Alex and Eileen, and her son Alec.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on November 25, 2024 at 1:30 pm at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, with Father Dan Yasinski officiating. A reception will follow at Somewhere Else Pub & Grill in the Avalon Shopping Center.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in Sharon’s name to a charity of your choice.
Sharon’s words echo her compassionate heart:
“When it really matters, phone a friend. Friendship can be found anywhere; keep your eyes and heart open to it. Never be afraid to reach out. Let flights of angels sing thee to heaven.”
Rest in peace, Sharon. You will forever be remembered for your love, strength, and the light you brought into this world.
