Rosmarie Johnson
Rosmarie Johnson of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan passed away peacefully on July 28, 2024 with her family by her side. Rosmarie was born on April 19, 1942 to Horst and Herta Schunack (nee Urban) in the town of Borna in Saxony, Germany.
Rosmarie grew up and worked in Germany but developed an interest in travel and specifically Canada and the prairies. She became pen-pals with Carl Frederik Johnson (Fred), a farmer near Forgan, Saskatchewan and after writing each other for a number of months, Fred visited Rosmarie in Germany, followed by Rosmarie visiting Fred in Saskatchewan. The writing and visits lead to Rosmarie and Fred marrying on September 23, 1967, and the couple continued to work the family grain farm together while raising their three children. Their 30-year marriage ended with Fred’s passing in 1997, and shortly thereafter, Rosmarie moved to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan to retire.
Rosmarie loved all animals, and always had a soft spot and healing hand for any injured baby rabbit, bird or duck found in the prairie, water or fields surrounding the family farm. She loved dogs and adopted many during her lifetime; which she considered part of her family. Most of all, Rosmarie loved her children and grandchildren, and we could not have asked for a better mother or “Oma”. She will continue to be forever loved and cherished by her family.
Rosmarie is survived by her children, Rebecca (Erick) Preciado and Chris Johnson, and grandchildren William Preciado and David Preciado. Rosmarie was pre-deceased by her son, Mark Johnson, and her husband, Fred Johnson.
Our family is incredibly grateful to the many wonderful caregivers at St. Paul’s Hospital Palliative ward in Saskatoon. In lieu of flowers, friends and relatives are invited to donate to this wonderful care center.
A private family funeral service was held.
