It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Murray Aaron Newton after a battle with cancer. Murray was born in Dodsland, Saskatchewan, to his parents, Robert John Edwin Newton, a grain buyer for the Pool elevator, and Jean Redmond (née Earle) Newton, the principal of the one-room schoolhouse in Stranraer.
Murray is survived by his partner, Beverly Beckett; his sons, Dean (Diane) and Don (Jamie); his brother, Earle; and his grandchildren, Kristin, Kyle (Kelsey), Jae, and Rhys.
After completing kindergarten through grade 11 in Stranraer, Murray moved to Saskatoon to complete grade 12 at Nutana Collegiate Institute. Over the course of his career, Murray created many positive relationships while working for Scotiabank, Safeway, Carnation Milk and Loraas Disposal. The highlight of his working life was collaborating on all things Newton Painting!
Murray loved watching his kids and grandkids participate in community sports and the arts. He was a big fan of the Hilltops, Huskies, Valkyries, Blades, Saskatchewan Roughriders, Toronto Blue Jays, and of course, his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs. Cars were a passion of Murray’s and he was a proud member of the Saskatoon Mustang Club.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nurses at Royal University Hospital (5300 and 6000) and Bayshore nursing for their excellent care and support.
For those who wish to honour Murray’s memory, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
A celebration of Murray’s life will be held on Thursday, November 21st at 11:00 am at Redeemer Lutheran Church (812 Preston Ave.) officiated by his friend, Pastor Trent Felstrom. The service will be livestreamed and the link will be available at the top of this page.
