Obituary of Lydia Heibein
June 13, 1929 – January 14, 2024
Lydia (Lil) as she was known by all her family and friends will be greatly missed. Suffering from Alzheimers, her struggles have come to an end.
Lil was born in Grenfell, Sk., the youngest of 9 siblings. Her parents had immigrated from Germany and although they grappled with finances, their work ethic kept the family going.
Mom (Nanny) graduated from Grade 12 and furthered her education at secretarial school in Regina. She met her lifelong partner Lewis in Bulyea and they were married on July 14, 1947. Early days were spent in Regina at various office positions. In 1962, Lil and Lew purchased the general store in Wilcox and with their 5 children, lived there until 1982. Too soon to retire, they moved to Melfort and bought a health food, bulk food store. They retired in Candle Lake in a beautiful home that Dad built. Prince Albert was the next destination followed by Preston Park in Saskatoon. In 2021, Mom moved in to Oliver Lodge and we gratefully acknowledge the staff’s care and support.
Lil was a community worker wherever she lived. CGIT and local rink in Wilcox, Lion’s Club in Melfort and treasurer of the seniors club in Candle Lake. Mom was fun loving, played the piano by ear, loved to play cards, and always enjoyed sitting by a fire with family, friends and a glass of wine.
Lil was predeceased by her brothers and sister, husband Lew, and oldest son Stuart. She leaves behind daughter in law Lynn, Janice (Dwayne) , Patricia (Doug), Greg (Kathy), Dale and 8 grandchildren: Allan (Cathy), Erin (Matt), Juline (James),Jeremy (Janice), Wade (Kathleen), Lane (Krista), David (Sophie), Heather (Mark) as well as 20 great grandchildren: Tessa, Claire, Jack, Ethan, Braedon, Georgia, Jameson, Adam, Kaydence, Addison, Haden, Ewan, Kate, Everett, Ryker, Kamryn, Lilian, Emily, Charlotte and Benjamin.
A Celebration of LIfe will be held at a later date.
