Donald Ames
1936 – 2024
Donald Ames passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on July 19.
Donald was born to Harold and Mabel Ames in Kenaston, SK. He grew up in a large hardworking farming family in Bladworth, SK. He loved farming and enjoyed driving the school bus for the town. He met our mom in Bladworth when she started teaching there. They married in 1966 and moved to Saskatoon. He then had a long career truck driving all over the province for Air Liquide. Dad loved curling, camping, fishing, the Roughriders, tractors, trains, card games, jigsaw puzzles and a good crossword.
He was a proud grandfather, who loved watching his grandkids grow up and thoroughly enjoyed watching them at all of their sporting events, drama, piano and dance recitals, he had a very special relationship with his grandson Grayson (his big guy!).
Donald was predeceased by his mother Mabel, father Harold and siblings Bruce, Lorne, Ken, Betty, Shirley, Marjorie, Audrey, Gladys and infant brother William.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marilyn and his three children; David (Leanne) and family Azaria, Jordana and Sofia, Donald, and Leanne (Vance), and his grandchildren, Willow, Lily, Summer and Grayson and his siblings, Dorothy, Glen and Wilda.
Special thanks to his Dr.’s Veikle, Graham, Siemens, Dmitry, nurses, residents and staff at St. Paul’s Hospital 5th floor medicine/observation unit and also the Palliative Care Unit Dr.’s MacMillan, Fournier, Kapusta and Johnson and all of the amazing nurses and CCA’s and therapists in Palliative Care for their kindness, compassion and commitment to outstanding care.
A celebration of life will take place and will be announced closer to the day of the service.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation, Palliative Care Unit or a charity of your choice.
