February 28, 1969 – November 4, 2023
Our hearts ache as we announce the passing of a loving son, husband, father, and grandfather; Wayne Douglas Fischer on November 4th, 2023. Taken to heaven too soon, Wayne leaves behind a legacy of love for his family and well timed Dad jokes. He will be deeply missed.
Wayne leaves behind a heritage of love and laughter that will forever be in our hearts. He is survived by his father, Gary Fischer, his brother James (Kristin) Fischer, and the love of his life, his wife Anita (Regier). His children, Nicole (Troy), Allison (Zach), and Lewis (Katie). As a grandparent, Wayne truly shone, bringing immense joy to his six grandchildren: Addison Kate, Jaxson Wayne, Brett Quintin, Drew Raymond, Austin Nicholas, and Tanner Alic (Lauzon). In his journey, Wayne has been reunited with his beloved mother, Shirley Fischer, mother-in-law Sylvia Regier, and numerous other cherished family members who’ve gone before him.
Wayne’s journey began on February 28, 1969, in the town of Rosthern, SK. He grew up in the close-knit community of Laird, SK. His days were filled with the echo of hockey pucks, the crack of a baseball against a bat, and later in life the gentle swish of a golf club. Wayne’s lifelong love of sports was apparent not just because he always had to have a game on TV, but from weekends filled with hockey tournaments, baseball games, and playing 18-holes with his son and close friends.
It was because of his love for his community and sports that he found himself “officially” meeting Anita in the fall of 1991 at a party for the Laird Jets. Married February 4 1994, Wayne and Anita built their lives with the promise of “if we have 5 years together, we’ll be lucky.” Almost 30 years later with three kids and six grandchildren; Wayne (and Anita) were always so grateful for what they had together.
Wayne was more than just a man; he was everything in the lives of those who love him. His witty humour, kind heart, and boundless energy made him a friend to everyone he met. He was an amazing husband and the best friend that Anita could ever ask for. Their laughter was the best part of each day they had together. At the end of every day Wayne came home from work to his family with so much love; his children couldn’t have asked for a more supportive, kind, and involved father. Especially with calf pinches, “dad tax”, and catch in the backyard. Wayne’s love, faith, and guidance were a constant source of strength and inspiration for his kids. As a Grandpa, he was full of energy and life. A visit to Grandma and Grandpa’s house was always met with great excitement. There was nothing like a spin on Grandpa’s shoulders – for both his grandchildren and him.
Wayne was always the guy that would be there for you. His 29 years’ of knowledge with parts and equipment built trusted relationships with farmers in his community; you could always find him at John Deere on a Saturday afternoon during Harvest. Playing hockey and slow-pitch created strong bonds with those he played with through the last 20 years, that went beyond a Tuesday night game and into lasting friendships.
The silly fun uncle, the dedicated coach, the second-dad, a top-notch cousin, a trusted friend, and a cherished nephew; Wayne was someone who always made others feel welcomed and comfortable. He will be most remembered for his quick wit, kind heart, and fast wheels. Wayne will forever be close to our hearts, remembered by many, and loved by us all.
For life and love Wayne and Anita gave thanks. And for his life and love, his family will always give thanks.
To honour Wayne’s memory and the love he had for the communities that shaped his life, the family will be holding two celebrations of life.
