Mildred STANEK Obituary
Mildred Grace Stanek passed away peacefully on November 30, 2023 at Rose Villa Long Term Care Home in Rosetown at the age of 99 years. Mildred was born on August 13, 1924 on the Fullerton family farm near McGee, Saskatchewan. She took her schooling at McGee and after graduating from grade 12 attended Normal School in Saskatoon. Soon after, she began her teaching career. She taught in many rural schools throughout Saskatchewan and had a positive influence on many students during that time. While teaching at Camberley School she met the brother of one of her students. It proved to be a fateful meeting. Mildred married Norman Stanek on February 2, 1950 and gave up her teaching career to be a farmer’s wife.
Together, Norman and Mildred managed a mixed farming operation. Their strong and loving partnership supported them through the high and lows of farming life for over 64 years. Mildred made many a meal for family, friends, neighbours, hired men and anyone who might drop in. She was a terrific baker, cook and gardener but was often called upon to drive a truck or a baler as well as herd and haul cattle.
When Norman and Mildred moved to Rosetown they slowly adjusted to town life. They enjoyed tending to their yard, bowling together and taking short trips with family and friends. Mildred made many friends on Glamis Cresent and was always up for a cup of coffee and a visit. She was a great listener and always had a soft spot for those in difficult circumstances. Her care and concern for children never left her and she cherished her time with her own daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her many nieces and nephews. Her love and commitment to family will always be remembered.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters Sandra (Hugh) Lees and Shelley (Jim) Crossman, her grandchildren Brenna Kampen, Kristina (Garret) Gray, Mike (Rebecca) Lees, Stephanie Karlson, Katie (Trent) Aylward, Will (Stacey) Crossman and 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Neil Fullerton and Norman’s sister Adeline Smith.
Mildred was predeceased by her husband Norman Stanek (2014), her parents Donald and Violet Fullerton, brother Nelson Fullerton, sister Irene Fullerton, brother and sister-in-law Donald (Leisha) Fullerton and sister-in-law Jean Fullerton. She was also predeceased by her in-laws; Gladys (Malcolm) Kemp, Florence (Walter) Hayes, Ruby (Pete) Arsenault, Ron (Donna) Stanek and Jerry Smith as well as her son-in-law Lloyd Claypool.
The family would like to thank the staff of Rose Villa and Dr. Dan Ledding for the loving care and support of Mildred and her family.
A Celebration of Mildred’s Life will be held on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Rosetown United Church with Reverend Jan Coffey-Olson officiating. Donations in memory of Mildred may be directed to the Rosetown & District Health Centre Foundation Inc., P.O. Box 653, Rosetown, SK, S0L 2V0. Arrangements entrusted to Shanidar Funeral Services.
