Hannelore (Ruder) Silzer 1935 – 2024 It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Hannelore (Lori), our beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, age 89, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2024, at Fort Qu’Appelle, SK.
Hannelore was born in Germany and immigrated to Canada in 1956. In 1957, Hannelore celebrated the arrival of her precious baby girl Karen. She was admired for her stylish wardrobe and sense of fashion. Her passions included German cooking (Kuchen), animals, shopping, visiting with friends, and bowling.
Spending time with her grandchildren brought Hannelore joy in her later years. Being a grandma was a cherished role that she embraced with boundless love and enthusiasm. Whether it was crocheting blankets, sleepovers, walks, hours at McDonalds, or road trips. Hannelore found immense happiness in every precious moment spent with her grandchildren and later on her great grandchildren.
Hannelore cherished her memories at Katepwa Beach. She and her late husband Norm had a property at the beach for many years and enjoyed relaxing and feeding the neighbourhood squirrels.
Hannelore was a dedicated and active member of the Lutheran Church for many years until she relocated to Echo Lodge Care Home in Fort Qu’Appelle. Hannelore shared her commitment to serving others with compassion and kindness and will be remembered for her endless willingness to help others.
Hannelore will be fondly remembered for her unmatched sassiness and infectious sense of humor, or her “spice” as her family called it. Hannelore’s spice reflected her playful spirit and fearless personality. She had a way of injecting humor into any situation, turning mundane moments into memorable anecdotes that left everyone in laughter. Her legacy of sassiness and humor will continue to bring smiles to our faces and warmth to our hearts, reminding us to embrace life with laughter and to never take ourselves too seriously.
Hannelore is survived by her Daughter Karen; Grandchildren, Kelly (Jen), Curtis (Erika), Cory (Tianna), and Kristin (Jordan); Great Grandchildren, Owen and Emma; and close friends Gina and Lydia; and other friends who will forever cherish her memory. She is predeceased by her loving husband Norm; Son-in-law David, and parents.
She will be missed by many and will be in our hearts forever. In honouring Hannelore’s wishes, cremation will take place and there will not be a funeral service. Instead, we invite family and friends to remember her in their own way, reflecting on the cherished moments and memories shared with her. In one of Hannelore’s many hand-written notes, she directed that when it is her time to depart, to not be sad “and don’t you cry because I am in a better place.”
Grandma enjoyed a cold beer so we hope you enjoy one for her in her memory. Prost (Cheers in German)!
