Eugenia Geni (Vakentie), late of Regina, SK, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at the age of 93 years. Eugenia was predeceased by her loving husband Lewis; parents Charlie and Flora Vakentie; brother George Vakentie; sister Theodora Edwards; and son-in-law Glen Neamtu. Eugenia leaves to mourn and will be sadly missed by her children Gerald (Donna), Marilyn (Calvin) Wittal of Drayton Valley, Alberta, Yvonne Neamtu of Calgary, Alberta, Barry of Kelowna, BC, Tim (Lesia), Larry (Linda), Colleen (Doug) Harle, and Jeanniene (Frank) McInally; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister Anne Lang of Saskatoon, SK; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Eugenia’s love for her family was unconditional. Born in Regina and raised on a farm near Kayville, Saskatchewan, Eugenia met Lewis. They married in Vancouver, but their hearts brought them back to Saskatchewan where they raised their eight children. Eugenia will always be remembered for her heart of gold and was a hard-working woman. Her ability to be self-taught in sewing was one of her many great talents. Eugenia could sew anything from clothes to quilts. Her children never went without because she always put family first before her own needs. Eugenia loved flowers and took pride in growing them in her garden and flower beds on Argyle Street North, which she made her home for 50 years. Nothing can ever take away the love our mother showed. Forever in our hearts, may you rest in peace, Mom!
The family wishes to say a special thank you to all the nurses and doctor in the Palliative Care ward at the Pasqua Hospital, as well as those who cared for Mom in Emergency. Thank you to the nurses and staff at Brightwater for being kind and caring. In lieu of flowers, those so wishing may make a donation in memory of Eugenia to Regina Palliative Care or to Breast Cancer Canada.
