Ruth Margaret Myhr
June 12, 1930 – February 2, 2024
With very heavy hearts we announce the passing of our mother, Ruth Myhr, late of Birch Hills. She passed away very peacefully with her family by her side.
Ruth was pre-deceased in 2023 by her husband Lorris, with whom she spent 68 years of love and caring. She also mourned and missed her first soulmate in life, her twin sister Mickey. The loss of her two beloved sons, Len and Greg were certainly dark times in her life and she missed them so very much.
She is survived by her children Debbie (Kevin) Clarke and their daugher Erin; Terrty (Cara) Myhr; and by Len and Greg’s children and step-children Christy, Dana, Thea, Sam, Tracy, Justin, Michelle and Krista, along with all of their families.
Mom grew up with her parents and her five siblings on a farm carved out by very hard work at Deer Ridge Saskatchewan. She and her twin began school there speaking Norwegian only. ‘They were identical twins, and this led to much fun and adventure over the years.
Mom loved people and was very loyal and generous to her family and friends near and far. Her home on the farm and later in town where they moved in 2007 were havens of hospitality. The coffee was on as soon as you walked in and conversation and laughter abounded. Her baking was legendary and was always on offer. Those deep-fried doughnuts were just the very best!
She was conscientious about staying in touch and acknowledging milestones in the lives of others. She wrote and sent so many beautiful cards and letters through the years.
She loved to grow things, especially trees and flowers, and was dedicated to making her yard at the farm beautiful. She diligently watered and tended the many trees she and Dad planted and they flourished under her care. She loved birds, and especially the hummingbirds that came to the farm every year to enjoy the feeder she kept filled for them. Many visitors got a great look at ‘the hummers’ through the kitchen window as they became very tame. It was hard to leave all of this behind when advancing age meant they needed to leave the farm.
Her generosity and kindness, along with her humour, determination and feisty nature will always be remembered by the family and friends who treasured her. Her beautiful smile brightened the day for everyone she gave it to. We were so very lucky to have had her in our lives and we will love and miss her always.
Mom lived at Birchview Home for the last few years of her life, and we would like to thank the staff there for her excellent care and for the outings and activities she enjoyed so much.
Her family also want to thank Mom’s doctors and nurses at Vic Hospital and at Rose Garden Hospice for their true kindness and compassion in her final days.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Birchview Home Auxiliary 7 Wilson St, Birch Hills, SK S0J 0G0 or Christ Alone Lutheran Brethren Church 428 Bellamy Ave, Birch Hills, SK S0J 0G0
