Doris Blood Obituary
Doris Pauline Blood
1923 – 2024
It is with a mix of sadness and gratitude that we share the passing of our beloved Doris Pauline Blood, who left us peacefully at the age of 100 on December 2, 2024. Born in Tyner, Saskatchewan, on December 27, 1923, Doris lived a life full of adventure, determination, and a deep love for her family and community.
Growing up on the farm, Doris was the ultimate tomboy so much so that she was affectionately known to her dad, Mint, as ‘guy’. She was always outside, learning the ins and outs of farm life. Farming was in her blood, and no matter where life took her, she never lost her connection to the land, especially with her future life with her beloved Glen.
She was the first in her family to graduate high school, a proud moment that marked the beginning of her success. After high school, Doris worked as a bank teller in Lacaden, Saskatchewan and she was always known for her sharp mind, strong work ethic, and no-nonsense attitude.
Doris and Glen’s love story began when they met at a dance in Tyner, Saskatchewan at just 13. Six years later, at 19, Doris married the love of her life, and they shared 65 wonderful years together. They were considered home to many and those who visited were welcomed with a pot of coffee and engaging conversation.
Doris was passionate about politics and staying informed. She loved discussing the big issues, always offering her well-thought-out opinions and caring deeply about the future of her community. Whether it was a local election or a national debate, she was always up-to-date and ready to share her thoughts.
One of Doris’s biggest passions was genealogy. She loved tracing her family’s roots and piecing together the stories of her ancestors. Many family members will fondly remember her sharing these stories, proudly passing down the rich history of their family for generations to come.
Above all, Doris was known for her wisdom and a generous spirit that touched everyone she met. She had a heart as big as the prairies she loved, and she leaves behind a legacy of strength, love, and an appreciation for the little things in life.
She is survived by her 3 children, Guy (Joan) Blood, Lenna Undershute, and Danna Rankin and sister-in-law Janice nee Blood (Frank) Gardener. She was predeceased by Glen Blood and her son Kevin (Pearl) Blood. Lovingly remembered by 7 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Red Cross:

Memorial & Celebration of Life announcement to come in early 2025, likely to take place in June 2025.
We will miss her dearly, but we take comfort in knowing that her spirit will live on in the stories, lessons, and love she gave to all of us.
Rest in peace, Doris. You were truly one of a kind.
