Obituary
With great sadness, the family of the late Nick Popoff announce his sudden passing at Canora, SK, on August 21, 2024, at the age of 77 years.
Nick was born on July 18, 1947, to Wasyl and Mary (Kooznetsoff) Popoff in Canora, SK. After he graduated from Canora Composite High School, he furthered his education and received his X-Ray Technician Diploma (MRT) shortly after.
Nick’s greatest moments in life included becoming a husband and father. On October 5, 1968, at Oxbow, SK, Nick was united in marriage to the love of his life, Annette Snider, and together they were blessed with three beautiful children, Nicolette, Cory, and Desmond.
Over the years, Nick and Annette lived in several different places including Estevan, Grand Forks, BC, Saskatoon, and Canora. Nick was an X-ray technician at the Hospital in Grand Forks and moved back to Canora to help on the family farm in the mid 1970’s. They spent most of their time living in Canora, but no matter where they were, together was all that mattered.
Nick was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and was a wonderful provider for his family. As a loving husband of 51 years, Nick advocated for and supported Annette in whatever she wished to accomplish. He was a huge fan and supported his children in all their extracurricular activities, such as hockey, figure skating, and piano. He was also so very proud of all six of his grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Nick took great pride in the hard work he continued to do with the farm and in supporting his family, thus leaving a lasting legacy for generations to come. As a committed x-ray technologist, he contributed to the health and well-being of his community in BC. Furthermore, as a dedicated farmer, he cultivated a legacy of amazing work ethic and self-sufficiency with his children.
He was an advocate for Education, and he valued lifelong learning in his personal life and celebrated all his children’s accomplishments and achievements. His family filled him with extreme pride and joy. Additionally, over the last few years, Nick attended the Gateway Community Church along with some good friends.
An integral provider and exceptional role model, Nick instilled the values of perseverance and strength in his family. With his toughness and sharp sense of humor, he was an inspiration to all who knew him. He accepted all the difficulties and challenges before him and faced them with strength, resilience, and determination. He truly showed others how to rise above the odds and was an inspiration to all who knew and loved him.
Nick was predeceased by his parents, Wasyl and Mary Popoff; wife, Annette Popoff; sisters, Irene Lyons and Ann Diane Popoff; and his beloved pet, Bandit.
He is survived by and remembered forever by his children: Nicolette (Bob) Mead, Cory (Darlene) Popoff, and Desmond Popoff; his treasured grandchildren: Bobby Mead, Christopher Mead, Lisa Popoff, Rachel Popoff, Natalia Popoff, and Nicholas Popoff; great-grandchildren, Sailor and Indiana Mead; and his sister, Pearl (Larry) Stubenberg; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
A Celebration of Nick’s Life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 30, 2024, at the Chapel of Leson’s Funeral Home, Canora, SK, with Pastor Greg Bright officiating.
