Obituary
With great sadness, the family of the late Mervin Korol announce his unexpected passing on September 25, 2023, at the age of 61 years.
Mervin was born February 25, 1962, in the Canora Union Hospital, Canora, SK, to Eugene and Victoria (nee Homeniuk) Korol. He was the second oldest in a family of five, with one brother (Allan) and three sisters (Teresa, Karen, and Sheila).
As a young boy, Mervin attended Canora elementary and high school, graduating grade 12 in 1980. He and his brother did a lot of fishing with their grandfather, John Homeniuk, during this time. During his younger years, he was also an avid baseball and hockey player, participating in different towns and cities in Saskatchewan.
Following graduation, Mervin went into construction for a few years with Sask Wheat Pool building elevators. In around 1985, he returned to the farm and started farming with his dad. He took on his family’s homestead and became a full-time farmer in 1999. When farm prices went sky high a few years ago, Mervin sold his land and went into part time work, which he continued until his passing.
Mervin spent his time doing what he loved. This included cross country skiing in the winter and biking long distances in the summer, especially along the Trans Canada Trail and at Good Spirit Lake. He had many good friends and liked his outings to Canora and Yorkton, which often included going to see new movies at the theatre. He was a very well-organized person and precise regarding his work. He kept an immaculate house and the surrounding land in very good standing.
We will miss Mervin while cherishing the time we shared together. He will be greatly missed by those who love him, including his parents, Eugene and Victoria Korol, his siblings, and his nieces and nephew.
Vichnaya Pamyat – May his memory be eternal.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 29, 2023, from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity, Canora, SK, with Rev. Fr. Michael Faryna officiating.
