Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Joe A. Dutchak announce his passing, with family by his side, on Wednesday, September 27, at the age of 91 years.
Joe was born in Canora, SK on August 4, 1932, to Andrew and Polly (Gazdewich) Dutchak. He attended Forest Hill School and helped on the family farm with chores as well as caring for his younger brothers.
Joe met Pauline Melnychuk and they were united in marriage in 1956. They were blessed with a daughter, Kimberley, and a son, Kevin. The family operated a mixed farm, raising livestock and farming the land.
Joe loved visiting family, friends, and neighbours. He also loved to fix things and tinker with motors. If it couldn’t be fixed, then it got moved to the spare parts section of his shop. He also had a passion to play the guitar and sing along with his favourite artists George Jones, Hank Williams, and Buck Owens. Joe was also a bit of a sports fan. On Saturday nights you could count on Joe tuning in to Hockey Night in Canada. In fact, a satellite dish was bought for the farm to watch and cheer on Gretzky and the Oilers.
Joe stayed active and healthy right up until his 91st birthday and he will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Joe was predeceased by his parents, Andrew and Polly; sisters, Elizabeth Ratushniak and Nellie Parnetta; brothers, Steve and Eugene; brothers-in-law, Steve Ratushniak and Joe Parnetta; and his nephew, Eugene Ratushniak.
He is survived by his wife, Pauline; daughter, Kimberley; son, Kevin; and brother, Orest (Rosalyn) Dutchak of Winnipeg, MB; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
A Funeral Service will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 6, 2023, from the Chapel of Leson’s Funeral Home, Canora, SK, with Rev. Fr. Ivan Simko as Celebrant. Rite of Committal to follow at the Canora Cemetery, Canora, SK.
