Obituary
With great sadness, the family of the late Anne Letwiniuk announce her passing at the Norquay Health Centre on October 5, 2023, at the age of 84 years.
Anne Evelyn Letwiniuk was born on March 9, 1939, to Pete and Kaycey (nee Krawetz) Smud in the Stenen District, SK.
At age 3, she lived with Ed and Mary Tanisiuk. She attended Woodlight School, north of Stenen. At age 16, she worked for Oscar and Betty Madison, where she looked after five kids and made meals. In the winter, she worked for Eunice and Wilfred Bellous and took care of seven kids and did the housework and meals. She met Mike Letwiniuk at Wilfred’s, and they were married on November 3, 1958. They worked that winter in a sawmill, came home in the spring, and in 1959 they built a small house. They had two sons, Michael (Patsy) in 1961 and Lorne (Liz) in 1966. They built their current house in 1967.
Anne worked on the farm with Mike driving tractor and hauling grain. She also did all the gardening and housework as well as milking cows, gathering eggs, butchering chickens, and canning for winter. She loved to crochet and make quilts and other crafts. Mike and Anne loved to travel and did a European tour, an Alaskan tour, and toured many other places in Canada. She was actively involved in the church. Most importantly, she was an amazing and caring mom and grandma to Anna born 1999 and Sam born 2002.
In 2016, diagnosed with dementia in her early 70’s, Anne became a resident of the nursing home, where she received amazing care. We are so thankful for all the care she received from home care while she was at home and then the Norquay Health Centre once she was in the nursing home.
On October 5, 2023, Anne peacefully passed away in the presence of the nurse at the Norquay Health Centre.
She leaves behind her loving husband, Mike; son, Lorne (Liz); daughter-in-law, Patsy (son, Michael passed 2016); grandchildren, Anna and Sam; sister-in-law, Annie; and brothers-in-law, George and Alex (Phyllis); as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Vichnaya Pamyat – May her memory be eternal.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 20, 2023, from the Chapel of Leson’s Funeral Home, Canora, SK, with Rev. Fr. Michael Faryna officiating. Interment will follow in the Dniepro Cemetery, south of Hyas, SK.
