Beloved Christine Katsi’tsenhawítha Zachary Deom of Kahnawà:ke Mohawk Territory passed away peacefully surrounded by her clan and close friends for her final moments at Káteri Memorial Hospital at the age of 77 on February 9, 2024.
Beloved mother of Alexis Kawenníshon Shackleton and Lauren Tsohahí:io Deom (Aronhia’kéha), Thomas Aronhió:ta’s Deom (Margie), Robert Sakaronhió:ta’ne Deom (Sue), Roger Dehyoñhtatha Moses. Cherished Grandmother of Graysen Ieweiehén:te Moses, Lynden Iehtehrenhá:wi Moses, Rawennakátste Benedict, Takarahkwèn:sere Benedict, and Ieien’kwaniióntha Benedict, Wíshe Michael Deom, Skarahkotá:ne Deom, Aiden Deom, Tekaráhkwake Deom, Eve Kanaerahtákwas Deom, Maddie Kahsennókwas Deom, Iaonhátie Deom and Lawrence’s children and grandchildren. Dear daughter of the late Louise Zachary. Widowed by Ronald Shackleton and Lawrence Tekanerahtén:sere Francis, former spouse to Joseph Raronhianónhnha Deom. Dear sister to the late Elvina Zachary (Buddy), sister to Melvin Zacharie (Nadine), and Anna Zachary (Eddie), also survived by her aunts Myrtle Warisó:se bush and Millie Bush and many cherished nieces (Tóta’s girls) and nephews.
Resting at her home in Kahnawà:ke on Monday February 12, 2024 for public viewing at 2pm until Funeral service and mass on Wednesday February 14, 2024 11am at the St Francis Xavier Mission. To be interred at the Catholic Cemetery.
Meal will be served at Kahnawakà:ke Legion Branch 219.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Multi-Purpose Building’s Beautification Fund at the Kanien’kehá:ka Onkwawén:na Raoti’tióhkwa Cultural Center.
