Phillis Freedin
We are saddened to announce Phillis’ peaceful passing, on Monday, January 1, 2024, in her ninety-seventh year. Beloved wife of the late Albert (Flynn) Freedin. Loving mother and mother-in-law of Nancy Freedin and Derek Gaucher, Billy Freedin and Carolyn Zigayer. Treasured Bubby of Erin Freedin and Dr. Ariel Levy, Justin Freedin and Sybil Elkharrat, Noah Freedin, and Adam Freedin. Proud Big Bubby of Talia, and Leor Levy, Ora, and Elan Freedin. Daughter of the late Beatrice and the late Israel Segal. Dear sister and sister-in-law of Evelyn and the late Nathan Kalichman, the late Leonore and the late Ben Room and the late Marion Segal. Predeceased by Albert’s siblings and their spouses, Morty and Florence Freedin, Ruth and Louis Shron. She will be lovingly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, family, and friends. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Phillis’s caregivers Harriet and Mauren, Dr. Mark Karanofsky and the staff at the Jewish General Hospital for their care.
Phillis was a dynamic individual who was never afraid to speak her mind, a fighter, a two-time cancer survivor, who reinvented herself in various careers. A real go getter, life of the party, avid golfer, bowler, and bridge enthusiast, who always adored her glass of chilled white wine. She loved to entertain, there was never an appetizer, a meal, a dessert that was not enjoyed by all.

Shiva at her son’s home on Saturday, January 6 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Sunday, January 7 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the “Albert and Phillis Freedin Memorial Fund” c/o the Jewish General Hospital Foundation, (514) 340-8251.
