Joseph Matjasec of Laval, Quebec passed away peacefully on Thursday July 11, 2024 in Montreal at the age of eighty-nine. He was born on March 13, 1935 in Gomilica, Slovenia. He is predeceased by his wife Filomena Kovac. Joseph is survived by his three sons Frank (Lydia), Tony, and Johnny (Elaine); grandchildren Sophie and Marlee; sisters Ana, Rozina and Mica; uncle to Vicky, Ana, Julie and Vera as well as his nieces and nephews in Slovenia. He will be missed by family and friends in Canada, New Jersey and Slovenia.
Joseph was born in Slovenia and immigrated to Canada at the young age of 16, in search of a better life for himself and his future family. In Canada he worked as a cook, owned a small grocery store before spending over 30 years as a butcher. He enjoyed classical music, football, hockey, travelling, and gardening. Though he left Slovenia at an early age, Joseph loved his home country and would listen to Slovene music daily. He lived a simple life and was grateful for what he had.
