It is with profound sorrow but immense relief that we announce the passing of Audrey Grace Morris of Pointe Claire, QC at the age of 97 with her family by her side. Arriving into this world on June 15, 1927 to William Charles Morris and Maude Grace Pearce, the sixth of seven children, she was the last remaining member of the Morris clan of 464 Ogilvy Ave. Park Extension, her brothers Stanley, Norman, Bruce and sisters Eveline, Iris and Joan having predeceased her. Married to Henry Arnold Bowen in 1951, she was the loving mother of (and survived by) three sons – Gary Bruce, Robert John and Randolph Charles (Clare Murphy). While eventually separated from her husband, she remained devoted to him her entire life, yet remained confidently independent. She was also a beloved Auntie to many nieces and nephews.
Grandpa Morris’ family hailed from St. John’s, NF, so the seven kids were imbued with a strong sense of family and thus remained connected to each other their entire lives. Mom, like her siblings, was always ready to laugh and was blessed with an easy going nature. This would serve her well with the health challenges she would eventually face. Three times a cancer survivor, Mom never complained about her condition nor the physical compromises her body would have to endure, indeed some to the end of her life. She faced these with quiet resolve and grace, for which she was aptly named.
She made friends easily and drew people to her due to (and in equal measure of) her sense of humility, dignity and compassion for all living things. She also had an adventurous streak, willing to follow an unpredictable partner in our Dad in his career pursuits. To that end they lived in several places around Canada (notably Sundre, AB, Beaverton, ON, Peterborough, ON) which she maintained suited her just fine. She finally found her way back home in 1993 to heal close to her youngest sister Joan in Chateuguay, QC. In 2009 until 2020 she was a resident at OMHM Maywood-Pointe Claire where she made many friends, enjoying daily conversation and the odd drinky-poo. Throughout her life she tried her hand at different things – painting, golf, skiing, etc. and always had a book to read close by. In her quiet but charismatic way, she made the world a better place.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff and 1st floor caregivers of CHSLD Vigi Pierrefonds, who over four years treated and cared for Mom with unwavering kindness and compassion, particularly in the last days of her life. Heartfelt thanks as well to Voluntas Commemoration for their thoughtful guidance and care. There will be no service. A donation to the West Island Citizen Advocacy would be gratefully received.
