Angelo Gemma 1935 – 2024
It is with love-filled hearts that our family announces the passing of our father and champion, Angelo Gemma this past Saturday April 27, 2024 at the age of 89 years.
Angelo will be dearly missed by Olga, his loving wife of 61 years, his 3 children, Maria (Giulio), Josie (Fred), Lorenzo (Sandra), 5 grandchildren Daniele (Joelle), Felicia (Salvatore), Simona, Anabel, Chelsea and his newest source of joy, his great grand-daughter Valentina, as well as our extended family and many friends.
Angelo was born in Chieuti, Italy on January 11,1935, and like many other courageous young men of that time, he came to Canada in search of work and an easier life. In 1959, during a trip back home to visit his family, he met his wife-to-be Olga. Shortly after, she joined him in Montreal and together, they built their home and family.
Knowing Angelo was knowing a true gentleman. He will be remembered for his quiet demeanor, kindness, welcoming nature, respectful personality, sense of humor and most of all his dedication towards his family. Angelo’s grandchildren were his love and joy, and his interest in them was unwavering. He had a special place in his heart for his nieces and nephews. Angelo’s other love and gift was working with wood. This led to a successful career as a cabinet maker and vocational teacher. This creativity will be cherished by us and many other people through the beautiful furniture and other wood projects he built. His love of music, walking and watching a good game of soccer remained with him till the end. We feel truly blessed to have had Angelo as our father and to have had him with us for so many years.
Our family would like to extend special thanks to the staff at the CHSLD de l’Hôpital LaSalle for their care and support, for valuing his autonomy and for embracing the qualities in him that we all saw, despite the onset of dementia.
A celebration of his life will be held at Maria Madre dei Cristiani (7935 Rue Lefebvre, Lasalle, QC H8N 1H5) on May 10th, 2024 at 12:30pm, followed by a private burial.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Alzheimer Society of Montreal or the l’Unité d’hébergement de l’Hôpital LaSalle or La Foundation de l’hôpital de LaSalle would be appreciated.
