Robert Lester Obituary
Robert Llewellyn Lester, known affectionately as Bob to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2024, at University Hospital in London. Born on November 10, 1941, in St. Thomas, Bob’s life was marked by his dedication to education, his love for his family, and his passion for sports.
Bob’s journey began as the cherished son of Fred and Lila Lester and the brother of Hugh Lester, all of whom predeceased him. His life was enriched when he married his beloved wife, Pat Martyn, in 1964. Together, they created a legacy of love and laughter that continued to grow with the births of their children, Sandra Leigh Lester and Michael Llewellyn Lester, and further blossomed with the arrival of their grandson, Jasper David Stronghill.
For 35 years, Bob served as an educator in Oxford County, where he was a respected teacher and principal. His commitment to learning and his ability to inspire both students and colleagues left an indelible mark on the community. Bob’s leadership extended beyond the classroom as he was actively involved in various associations, contributing to the betterment of educational standards and practices.
Outside of his professional life, Bob was a man of many interests. He was an accomplished woodworker, creating beautiful pieces that reflected his meticulous nature and artistic eye. On the greens, he was a regular presence, enjoying the camaraderie and challenge of golf. Bob’s enthusiasm for sports was undeniable, especially when it came to cheering on his favorite teams, the Toronto Blue Jays and the Toronto Maple Leaf’s. His loyalty as a fan was as steadfast as his love for his family.
Bob’s warm smile, generous spirit, and unwavering integrity will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, a commitment to education, and a family that will continue to honor his memory by living out the values he held dear.
As we say farewell to Bob, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of purpose, joy, and love. His memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of his family, friends, and the countless lives he touched throughout his remarkable journey.
Friends and relatives are invited to join the family at Brock and Visser Funeral Home, 845 Devonshire Ave., Woodstock (519-539-0004) on Friday, June 28, 2024, form 2 to 4 pm and again from 6 to 8 pm. The memorial service will be held in the chapel on Saturday at 3:00 pm.
