Marion Andreasen Obituary
At Woodingford Lodge, Woodstock ON, on Friday, January 26, 2024, in her 75th year. Marion Louise Andreasen entered into the arms of Jesus from her granddaughter Hannah’s embrace. Now in heaven, free from her struggle with dementia, she has joined her beloved husband of 52 years, Harvey Andreasen (2023). She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and esteemed nurse.
Family was the cornerstone of Marion’s life. She was the cherished daughter of the late Owen and Maida (nee Capes) Walker (2003 and 2002 respectively). Her older sister, Carol Dyck (2016) predeceased her. Surviving siblings are David Walker and Nancy Thomson.
Loving mother of Dr. Sarah Andreasen (Paul Brooksbank) and Elizabeth (Scott) Buckrell. Treasured grandmother of Danica and Rylan Brooksbank; Matthew (Johanna), Adam (Abbey), Jacob (Megan), Noah (Sydney Alexander), and Hannah (Ryan Baer) Buckrell. Precious great grandmother of Oliver, Hudson and Everett Buckrell; Nolan and Maddison Buckrell.
Marion was known for her compassionate spirit and dedication to others. Her journey as a caregiver, which began in her youth, led her to pursue a career in nursing. She studied at South Waterloo Memorial Hospital in Galt, Ontario, where she graduated as a registered nurse on September 3, 1970. She received the Hospital Auxiliary Award which was presented to the student who demonstrated the greatest professional growth.
For over three decades, Marion served at the Woodstock General Hospital, touching countless lives with her kindness and expertise. Fellow colleagues describe her as an amazing nurse! She was smart, empathetic, organized and tough all at the same time. She was also known for her incredible skill of memorizing numbers and excelled in her roll as charge nurse on 3rd East before her retirement in 2001.
Marion’s passion for knitting and crocheting was an expression of her love. She crafted countless baby sweaters, bonnets, booties and afghans for the newborns at the church, as well as for her own grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Each stitch symbolized her warmth and care. In earlier years she enjoyed purchasing the latest patterns and yarns to execute the current trends in sweaters for her family.
Marion enjoyed baking and shared her skills first with younger sister Nancy and then her own daughters and granddaughters. It was always a treat to sit on her kitchen counter, watch the creation process and anxiously await the opportunity to lick the spoon or spatula.
As a woman of faith, Marion was an active member of Faithway Baptist Church, where she experienced joyous fellowship with friends. Marion enjoyed worshipping her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, by singing with her beautiful soprano voice. When the time came that she was lost for words, she was still able to sing traditional hymns from memory. Daughter Elizabeth will forever cherish the privilege of taking both her parents to Faithway for their Sunday services until Marion’s admission to Woodingford on October 28, 2022 and Harvey’s heart attack on December 1, 2022.
Marion’s selfless nature will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her journey through life was marked by an unwavering commitment to caring for others, a commitment that will continue to resonate as a powerful legacy in the memories of those she leaves behind.
Friends and loved ones are invited to join the family at the Brock and Visser Funeral Home, 845 Devonshire Ave., Woodstock (519-539-0004), on Friday, February 2, 2024 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm and 7:00 – 9:00 pm.
