Pearson, John Edward “Ed” –
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Edward Pearson, who left us after a sudden and brief illness. Ed was born on March 6, 1931, to Dorothy (Chester) and Joseph William Pearson, and grew up on the family farm, at RR#5 Woodstock, where Toyota now stands. He met the love of his life, Vita, at a dance in Stratford. Their adventures took them to Toronto, Orillia, Ottawa, Richmond, and ultimately back to Woodstock.
Ed took great pride in his role as a manager at Beaver Lumber in both Ottawa and Woodstock. He was an accomplished auctioneer, owning and operating Pearson Auction Company. He absolutely loved his real estate career, retiring at the age of 75. His experience, professionalism, knowledge, and expertise were deeply appreciated by his colleagues and clients. Additionally, he was an avid beekeeper, finding joy and solace in tending to his bees.
Predeceased by his beloved wife Vita, whom he missed desperately, Ed leaves behind a legacy in his children: Sandra Oczkowski (Ed), Billy Pearson (Catherine), and Barbie McDonald (John). He was immensely proud of his grandsons: Coleman Jennings McDonald, Mason Edward Pearson McDonald, and David Edward Oczkowski.
Ed cherished his connection to Nova Scotia, as it was Vita’s homeland. Our heartfelt thanks go to our Nova Scotia family: Jerry and Paula Gale, Shelley and Paul Corbin, Lillian and Cliff Richard, and Patrick “Cubby” and Louise Casey, for their love and support over the years.
We extend our gratitude to the staff at The Maples Home for Seniors in Tavistock, where he resided since 2019. Joan, Sabrina, Cathy, and the rest of the staff were caring and thoughtful. Vita and Ed resided together at The Maples, until Vita’s passing in 2021. Ed made many friends at The Maples, where the care and compassion were unparalleled.
Our thanks also go to the staff at Woodstock General Hospital and Stratford Hospital, who cared for him during his final weeks until he could settle in at Sakura House. He wished to spend his final days at Sakura House, feeling as though he was back “home” at RR#5. Sakura House is a beautiful facility, and the staff provided professional care, empathy, and support during this emotional
time.
Special thanks to those who visited him at The Maples, Woodstock Hospital, Stratford Hospital, and Sakura House: Bob and Joyce Stewart, Sharon Wilson (niece), Lynn Routly, Lily and Hui Wong, Bella and Gibson Bernath, Gordon (cousin) and Lee Chesney, Chester Counsell, his cousin who he viewed as his brother and his partner Donna, and as well as Joan, Sabrina, and Cathy from The Maples.
At the end of his life, he wanted to know that he had been a good Father. We assured him that he has been an exceptional Father and role model.
Ed and Vita, reunited at last.
A donation to Sakura House, in any form, would be a heartfelt tribute to his life.
A Celebration of Life will occur at a later date.
