In 1963, Grant & Marie bought MacIntyre’s Bakery which they owned and operated on the main street of Wingham up until their retirement in July of 2000. They were married for over 59 years. Together they raised three children and loved to spend time with their growing family. Aside from his business and family, Grant dedicated much of his time to nurturing the local wildlife near his home including birds, squirrels and even a possum. He had a special fondness for cats, rescuing many and finding loving homes for them. Grant’s devotion reached its peak in his role as a caregiver to his beloved wife, Marie. Together, they faced life’s challenges hand in hand, demonstrating a bond that only strengthened over the years. A unique and heartwarming chapter of Grant’s life unfolded in his relationship with his granddaughter, Tori. Their bond was not only one of familial ties but a source of strength during Tori’s battle with cancer, mirroring Grant’s own journey. Grant’s unwavering support and love provided comfort in difficult times, leaving a permanent mark on Tori’s heart. Grant’s legacy is one of love, compassion, resilience and the best honey-dipped donuts.
A Celebration of Grant’s life will be held at the Wingham Legion on Sunday, May 26th, 2024 from 2:00-4:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Wingham & District Hospital Foundation would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
