June 22, 1952 – July 2, 2024
Shirley Ann Jinkerson, a resident of Windsor, Ontario passed away peacefully after a long and courageous battle with Cancer on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 with her loving daughter Sarah and sister BJ by her side.
She was predeceased by her parents Thomas and Betty Horton, husband Stuart and daughter Cindy.
She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Sarah (Dan) Ashley, her grandchildren Brandon, Brook, Bronson, Haley, Hunter, Brittany, Madysin and Samantha. She will also be greatly missed by her great grandchildren Willium, Dawson, Octavia, Lilith, Logan, Lydia and Amelia. Shirley had a special place in her heart for her niece Shaylynn (Michael), loved and cared for Serenity, Makyah and Avalynn as great grandchildren. She will also be missed by her siblings Liz (Norton), Tom (Tracey), BJ (Bob) Spencer, Mary Dysarz Harrington, John Horton, Nathan Horton and Bob Horton, and many other nieces, nephews and relatives too numerous to mention.
Shirley was an outgoing, enthusiastic person with a heart of gold, she was always willing to assist anyone in need, with a vibrant smile on her face no matter what she endured, from the unexpected loss of her daughter, to the battle she valiantly fought until July 2. She will always be remembered for her acts of kindness and willingness to support humanity.
Shirley volunteered in many aspects throughout her lifetime with Windsor Homes and Coalition, Windsor Seventh Day Adventist Church Community Services, Canadian and America Red Cross, A.L.S.O. Windsor, Windsor Jeep Club, United Way, Legion Branch 594, Windsor Public Schools, Windsor Public Library, Vacation Bible School (S.D.A.), Boy Scouts of Canada, Big Sister, Canadian Mental Health Association and the Ovarian Cancer Research Canada, 25ers Club of Windsor of Emergency 401 First Aid Responders but was most proud of her with the current position with the Royal Canadian Legion.
The family would like to show appreciation and thank Carol Sokol who has stood beside her for the last seven years, her lifetime friend Debbie Brown for the kindness, care and compassion shown throughout her lifetime, also a special thank you to her dear friend Joyce Lamoureux of Windsor, Ontario for being at Mom’s side during her time in Palliative Care.
Pallbearers will be Bob Spencer, Tom Horton, Dan Ashley, Bronson Jinkerson-Prosser, Brandon Jinkerson-Prosser and Hunter Ashely.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 14, 2024 from 11:00am – 1:00pm at the Windsor Seventh-day Adventist Church, 5350 Haig Avenue, Windsor, Ontario N8T 1K8. Funeral service will follow at 1:00pm with Pastor Alex Galavenko officiating, with a luncheon to follow. As per Shirley’s request cremation will take place following the service.
