Passed away peacefully on December 14, 2024 at 68 years of age.
Beloved wife of Dr. Rao Malempati. Cherished mother of Dr. Harsha (Amy Cheng) and Dr. Chaitanya (Jordan). Loving grandma of Celine and Theo. Predeceased by her parents Lakshmana & Saraswati Kancherla. She will be sadly missed by her siblings, nieces and nephews.
Born in India in 1956, she immigrated to Canada in 1981. Lakshmi was incredibly dedicated to her community and was the driving force in raising funds to build a new Hindu Temple and Cultural Centre which was named Malempati Cultural Centre and opened for the public in November of 2016. She sponsored a scholarship for the U. of Windsor in 2008, sponsored scholarships for the Windsor Medical School in 2012 & she sponsored scholarships over many years, to 25 -30 students from India to come and settle in the USA, and she donated food to the Downtown Mission for 5 years. Lakshmi raised funds to promote angioplasty program in Windsor in 2008 when she was the President of India Canada Association. She started Health Expo for ICA in 2008 which since has become an annual event. She was full of love and joy to contribute her fullest to her family, community and the world to build a better future for all.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2024 from 1 pm until the time of the funeral service at 3:30 p.m. at Families First, 3260 Dougall Ave., South Windsor (519-969-5841). Cremation to follow.
