Peacefully with his family by his side at Hillsdale Estates on October 9, 2023 in his 101st year. Predeceased by his wife Lorna, his parents John and Charlotte McAteer, his siblings Jack, Katherine and Shirley and his grandson Geoffrey. Loving father of Richard (Jane), Theodore and Gail Rich (Larry). Cherished grandpa of Kevin (Rachel), Brendan (Caroline), Brian (Emily), Rebecca (Lee), Michelle, Katherine (Sai), Ashley (Derek), Nicole (Justin), and Christine (Tyson). Proud great-grandpa of 16, soon to be 17. Dearly missed by his daughter in law Trudy and nieces and nephews, especially Barb and her daughters Kim and Kelly. Ron will be remembered as a lover of music and talented singer, spending many years as a member of the Whitby Senior’s Choir and the St. John the Evangelist Choir. He was an avid painter and wood carver, leaving his family and friends many tangible memories adorning the walls of their homes. Outside of his love for the arts, he enjoyed a good book and was a crossword enthusiast. Ron’s family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to the staff of Hillsdale Estates – Lavender Lane for the compassionate care that he received. Funeral Mass will be held at St. John the Evangelist, 903 Giffard Street, Whitby beginning at 11:00am. Cremation with inurnment at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, Whitby. If desired, donations in Ron’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Whitby Seniors Centre.
