Obituary of Joanne Kay Georgina Stante
Joanne Stante (née Sparling) passed away peacefully while surrounded by family and friends on November 27, 2024. Born and raised in Niagara Falls, Joanne had a variety of careers but spent most of her working life as a medical office assistant. She had a lifelong love of God, enjoyed attending weekly church services, and was always keen to help others any way she could. She treasured her family and friends and was at her happiest baking with the people she loved during the Christmas season. Joanne will be greatly missed, and she will always be remembered for her unconditional love, her selfless character, her wit, smile, and laugh, her unending dedication to family, and (of course) her butterhorns.
Dementia stripped Joanne of much over the years, but thankfully, it never got to steal her ability to recognize the people she loved and tell them that she loved them. Beloved mother of Joe, Marina (Jesus), and Anita (Rob), and stepmother of Mike (Marianne). Cherished grandmother of Brianna (Ryan), Izabella (Aidan), and Miguel. Dear sister of Bonnie, Lloyd (Stacey), and Brenda (Harry). Loving aunt / great aunt of Joan (Tom), Kaya, Harry, Kallen, Brandon (Aida), Pam (Terry), Gregory, Serena, Trinity, Randy (Emma), Stevie, Sofia, Brittany (Matt), Ella, Macie, Sage, Jon (Sue), Kyle, Jennifer and Sarah (Jim). Adored, life-long friend, of Terry and Alice. Joanne was predeceased by people she loved dearly – her parents Joan and Lloyd, her sister Lorna, her brother-in-law Don, and her husband Sisino.
Thank you to all the family, friends, and personal support workers who helped care for Joanne throughout her battle with dementia, and a special thank you to Terry, whose love and dedication to her friend was truly inspiring. Following Joanne’s wishes cremation has taken place. Visitations will be held at the WELLAND FUNERAL HOME, 827 East Main St., on Friday, December 6th from 2-4 and 6-8 pm and the funeral will take place at Grace Gospel Church, 5855 Valley Way in Niagara Falls, on Saturday, December 7th at 11:00 am. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Niagara Region on Joanne’s behalf.
