BLASKO, Erna Agnes
In memory of Erna, who passed away on Thursday, November 14, 2024. Predeceased by her husband Larry (2012), her parents Charlie and Eva Rutherford, brother-in-law Bob Allen and nephew Jeff Allen. Erna is survived by her son Bob (Miryam Lachance Blasko) her daughter Susan (Ed Gudaitis), her sister Cheryl Allen, her grandchildren Katie (Tyler), Jamie (Amanda) and Dayna and her great grandchildren Ayla, Josie and Ruby.
Erna became a Registered Nursing Assistant in 1966 and worked at the Welland County General Hospital until her retirement. Erna and Larry were devout parishioners at St. Kevin’s Church in Welland.
She loved to golf, bowl and play cards and lifelong friends were made at the golf course, bowling alley and ladies card club. She also spent many enjoyable hours at Casino Niagara with her little sister. She was a skilled hobbyist, an excellent baker, and a loyal friend and neighbour. She was an unwavering fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Blue Jays.
The family would like to thank Dr. H. Venter for his compassionate care. As well, the family wishes to thank all the staff at Shorthills Villa Retirement Home for their genuine love of Erna. Special mention to Colleen, Lisa, Maria and Gisele.
Cremation has taken place. Family will receive friends at the H. L. Cudney Funeral Home, 241 West Main St., Welland on Monday, November 25 2024 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. A service to celebrate Erna’s life will be held in the chapel at 1 p.m. followed by a private interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting you consider a donation to the Jeff Allen Memorial Scholarship Fund at Greater Fort Erie Secondary School or to the St. Vincent de Paul St. Kevin’s Conference. Erna lived a long and happy life. She has joined Larry on the first tee.
