Walter Moon Obituary
Walter Joseph Moon, beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully and far too soon on November 29, 2023 at the age of 48 in Barrie, Ontario.
Walter was born in Burlington on December 5,1974, to loving parents Bryan and Dorothy Moon. He was a devoted brother to his siblings Wesley (Shannon), Sharon, and Emily (Kris Lawler). Much-adored Uncle Wally to Georgia, Emmett and Albert. Walter was fortunate to have a far-reaching group of friends, notably in Muskoka, Barrie and southern Ontario, many of whom had the opportunity to visit him in his final days.
Walter lived a full life. He enjoyed the outdoors, including many years in Muskoka in the hospitality industry with many dear friends and in close proximity to Nine Mile Lake, where he cottaged his entire life. Hunt camp at the cottage with his Dad was an annual favourite. In recent years, he relocated to Barrie and found peace in a regular routine with work-life balance while still being close to family and friends.
A lover of all things culinary like his Mom, Walter was not just a foodie but found joy in cooking, creating memorable meals that were often enjoyed with a great glass of wine. As a passionate Euchre player, Walter’s competitive spirit was matched by his contagious laughter, and very possibly, cheating. Friends and family often gathered around the table at Moon Bay, sharing memorable evenings filled with friendly banter (trash talk) and heaps of fun.
Outdoors, Walter relished moments spent with his faithful dog companion, Reggie. Whether a casual stroll around the neighbourhood, a waterfront hike, or just lounging, he found a unique sense of contentment in these shared activities. Walter devoted much of his life to nurturing his friendships, whether it be through his treasured weekly darts league, many active group chats, nights out or trivia games, he cherished his time spent with his wide circle of friends.
We remember Walter as a devoted family member and friend. We are comforted knowing that Walter lived a life filled with love, laughter, and a profound impact on the people around him. His memory will live on in all the laughs we shared, the meals we enjoyed, and the fun we had together. Let us carry this forward in our hearts as we commemorate his beautiful life.
Friends and relatives may visit with the family at KITCHING, STEEPE & LUDWIG FUNERAL HOME, 146 Mill St. N., Waterdown, on Sunday, December 3, 2023 from 1-3 p.m. with a Memorial Service to follow at 3 p.m. with Rev. Canon Sue-Ann Ward officiating.
